Roster Update

Per Mike Wells:

Forward Danny Granger, out all of the preseason because of a left knee injury, will make his debut, although he will be limited to 12 minutes of playing time.

He'll start with Paul George, David West and Roy Hibbert. D.J. Augustin will continue to start at point guard until George Hill returns from a hip pointer.

Also, the Pacers have waived a few players:

The Pacers released Blake Ahearn, Sundiata Gaines and Luke Nevill to bring their roster to 15 players. Teams can keep as few as 13 players and as many as 15. Rosters have to be set by Oct. 28.

bottom line, Sam Young made it. even with Hill out we decided that Lance could handle the backup point duties well enough that keeping Sam was more important than keeping another pure point guard.

Welcome the Hansbrothers!

Ben and Tyler standing back to back wearing cowboy hats and sporting fierce looks on a hot desert background.

With matching eagle's sound.

oh, you're right. I forgot about Ben. hard to believe he won the 3rd point guard spot but for now he is number 15. I sure didn't think watching him in summer league that he'd get this far.

Surprising that he beat out Gaines.

There's still the possibility of waiving an extra player to keep a roster spot open.

right, I doubt Ben has a fully guaranteed contract.

He only played two minutes tonight and that was with Hill sitting out.

I can't imagine that Ben Hansbrough will keep a roster spot long. He did look ok in his small minutes in the pre-season, but I think we'll be ok with just Hill and Augustin at the PG for awhile. I can't imagine that they'll keep him long enough to guarantee his contract.

And if anything does happen to either Hill or Augustin, and they need someone to play extended minutes, i'm pretty confident that Vogel would hand the ball over to Lance Stephenson at the point, rather then give it to Ben Hansbrough.

I don't really see them keeping him around either. Hill and Augustin are strong enough to handle it.

So we can dress 13 players per night with the other 2 guys wearing street clothes on the bench. You'd have to think that Ben Hansbrough is one bound to wear a suit every night, but how about the other? My guess is possibly a back-and-forth between Pendergraph and OJ. (I might say Plumlee, but considering the time and money invested in him, my guess is that they'll try to get him game action if at all possible while not forcing the issue.)

that is an open question. it was always 12 but they made some changes in last year's shortened season. I've looked for and not found this year's number. I don't know if it is still 13 or reverted to 12.

Ben and OJ should sit barring injuries. Pendergraph seems to be outplaying Plumlee at this point but Plumlee is taller and my preference is to have a 3rd center rather than a 3rd power forward dressed.

Completely forgot the Pacers were playing the pre-season game at ND (BHansbrough's alma mater) the other night. I would have to imagine they may have kept him for that either as a courtesy, or a way to sell tickets.

I had the same thought yesterday, Scoot. He only got 4 minutes but he was the only 3rd unit player to get any minutes at all. Hill still isn't playing so Augustine started and Lance got most of the backup point minutes. that Ben played at all is consistent with our theory. they could certainly keep him until January when all contracts become guaranteed but it wouldn't surprise me to see him let go anytime after Hill is ready to play now that this game is behind us.
