Pietrus was in the league last season because of his reputed ability to shoot threes and play solid perimeter defense. Unfortunately, he was unable to do either for the Celtics, looking like a shell of the athlete we remember with Orlando and Phoenix.

Big picture, the Pacers can forget about finishing with the second best record in the Eastern Conference (especially if the Knicks can somehow sustain what they're doing right now), but Granger's temporary absence doesn't mean the ceiling is lowered regarding how well they finish in the postseason.

In fact, this injury should allow Paul George to mature even faster, which is what this team needs regardless of Granger's health if they want to compete for more than two rounds of playoff basketball.

But George's performance has been pretty sub par so far. Everyone we added this season has been sub par, imo.

With Granger out, and Sam Young and Gerald Green seeming unable to take over a starting role, I don't see why we don't offer Pietrus a minimum contract.

Either way they're in an unfavorable situation. Offering Pietrus a minimum contract can't hurt, but he reportedly wouldn't accept that in Boston, so we'll if he comes around. Anything more than the Veteran's Minimum would be a MAJOR mistake.

RealGM's very own Andrew Perna (who used to post here), reports Pacers not in a hurry to sign anyone... http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... or_Granger

Pietrus will be a great replacement... After losing on Barbosa, they should give him a long term deal...

I'm not thrilled in anyway with the possible addition of Pietrus.

It is a scoring option that Indiana is lacking and Pietrus is not a scorer. Never was. He could hit threes every now and then but is he someone that is waaaay better than what we have?

I'd honestly rather have Lance start at the 2 if Gerald Green isn't working.

I'd seriously rather have T-Mac than Pietrus.

If anything other than a vet minimum signing for the end of the bench, I'd prefer exploring what kind of overlooked talent we could get on the wings in exchange for Tyler Hansbrough. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Rush/Amundson style of trade last year.
