What about Royce White??

Post#1 » by basketballwacko2 » Thu Jan 3, 2013 9:29 pm

I bet we could get this guy cheap from Houston, he refused to go to the D/League recently and they don't seem to know what to do with him. I hear he has some kind of Anxiety disorder? But don't know much about the guy except he was pretty highly touted out of the draft.

Would we have any interest in a deal with them to get him? :D

He has an anxiety disorder that makes him afraid to fly. After his little stunt in refusing the D-League, he seems like an arrogant stubborn little kid. He has discipline problems in college, and overall he has a bad mental attitude.

I wouldn't mind having him as a project player, maybe like Pendergraph/Plumlee + 2nd rd for Royce White. Realistically, I don't think it'll happen, but I guess we can dream.

So is he like BA from the old ATeam tv show? They have to knock him out to get him to LA for the game? Cant he just take a xanax and get on the team plane?

Well, he rode the team plane at Iowa St. for all but two games, so I'm not sure what the problem is with Houston...

It all goes way way way way way beyond the idea that he's got a phobia of flying. His anxiety disorder and anti-social tendencies make it difficult for him to work constructively to find a solution to the situation - as he digs his hole further, it becomes harder and harder for him to see the light from the top of the hole. It's going to get uglier.

Now if Royce White wants to come play on a summer league deal in 2016 or whatever, he'll probably be more than welcome.

But frankly, no, you can't get Royce White "for cheap" - he's got a guaranteed contract. And he's not playing basketball. So if paying this guy something like 1.5 million for the next few years to do nothing is "cheap" then sure, it's "cheap", even if you give nothing for him.

But let's be honest, we don't need him. So why take any risk? Let him figure his problems out with some other team, and if he gets his act together, great, we can try bringing him in 2 or 3 years from now.

All indications are saying that Royce White is a bust. If this guy hadn't been drafted, but was just a free agent, would you give him a guaranteed contract for like 4 or 5 million, or whatever it is he's guaranteed?

Hell no! The guy can't even show up for practices or do anything!

Regardless of what the reason for that is, why would you want that guy?

Do we know how to deal with anxiety disorder?

No. We cannot even seem to get Hibbert out of his mental funk.

Therefore, we should stay away from Royce for the time being.

I sincerely believe that he'll manage to be a good player somewhere along the road. He'll find a haven, play good basketball and contribute. But the team that takes him on has to know how to deal with his disorder.
