Scoring option off bench
I really think the Pacers need a scoring threat off the bench. If you look at our bench we really don't have that option, we have guys that if they get 10 pts they are doing good. Don't really know if there is anything out there or if we even have what it would take to get someone like that. We need someone like a Crawford, B. Gordon, V. Carter someone that is a threat to go for 20 on a given night. My first thought would be a guy like V. Carter who is on a team that is going nowhere, he is old but as 6 man he could go for 20 on any given night.

Re: Scoring option off bench
When Granger returns, Stephenson will be our 6th man, and he has been playing great. Augustin isn't bad, but he is inconsistent.. Gerald Green was supposed to be the one to come off the bench and score, but he has been the worst player on the team so far this season. I would be open to trading him for another bench player, but not Vince Carter. He's aging, and I'd rather have someone who you know won't retire in 2 years.

Re: Scoring option off bench
When Granger returns.
In his first couple of games he will come off the bench and if it works, Vogel isn't the type of coach to make changes and risk messing with the chemistry of our starters. Collison had to get injured before he replaced him with Hill, who was and is clearly the better player.
Think about it. They have to be careful with Danny. Stephenson is playing very well in a limited role and George is a SF. Sam Young is going to be waived, so that leaves only 2 guys on our roster who can defend threes. I think it is possible.
Augustin
Green
Granger
Hansbrough
Mahinmi
Granger can play the 4 when our bigs are struggling again and George can play more minutes at the 2 when Green and Stephenson are making silly mistakes again.

Re: Scoring option off bench
Yes Granger will be that guy till he returns to the starting line-up, but we need a guy that is more of a scoring threat. I would be more in favor to leave Granger to come off the bench but that would be hard to do. We have a hard time scoring the 2nd quarter. Stephenson has been playing well but he is doing good if he scores 10pts, same with the rest of our bench. Hansbrough had 19 against Boston but he hasn't scored over 10 pts in who knows how long. You put Augustin, Stephenson, Green, Hasbrough, Mahinmi out on the floor which on of them are you thinking is going to get 20. They are lucky to get 25 all together. I just think to get over the top we need that guy that should be in the starting line-up but makes the team better coming off bench. (Ginobli type player) I don't think that is Stephenson, and Green hasn't shown it either.
J.Crawford, Thorton, M.Brooks, I really don't know someone that is really just a scorer???????????

Re: Scoring option off bench
We really don't have room for another player. We just had to cut Sam Young because of his injury and to make room for Granger's return. Green is supposed to be that guy, but it hasn't worked out so far.
And you suggested above to bring a guy in until Granger comes back, but then what? Say we trade for Carter, but when Granger comes back, would we just cut him? It doesn't make sense to do something like that when Granger comes back in February.

Vince Carter is good, but I doubt that Cuban will let him go. Dallas needs his experience and basketball IQ coming off the bench.
There's another veteran I think we may go after if we think Green is too inconsistant and Orlando Johnson is not ready, Michael Redd.
Redd used to talk with the Pacers before he sign with Phoenix. Maybe we could sign him to fill Young's spot.

Re: Scoring option off bench
My point is Stephenson and Green are not the guys I want to be depending on to get me 15-20 pts. With the rotation we have there are 5 bench players on the floor and no scorers. Even moving Stephenson to bench does not help. Having a guy like Carter makes your 2nd unit more of a threat. Carter is old but his game is still heads of Green or Stephenson.
Laydo I like the way your thinking, if Redd still has game he is the type of player we need. We need a scorer for the bench, we have a bunch of role players and none of them are scorers, Green has not played like he did for the Nets last year.

Stephenson is slowly proving to the league why Bird was so patient with him. A couple more years, a little more maturity and he could be a decent starter.
I don't see Carter being available though, I'd rather stick with our young guns.

What are people's thoughts on going after tayshaun prince? Pacers could probably deal green for him and he could be that missing piece of the bench. Prince could be huge come playoff time to cover the 4s in small units like when Miami, ny or Boston throws James, melo or green at the 4

Re: Scoring option off bench
I think Granger will start as soon as he returns. His minutes will be limited, but he will still start.
Picking up Tayshaun Prince would be a terrible move because he has 2 years left on his contract after this season. Green has a lot of talent, however, he has struggled. The Pacers need to trade him for a draft pick or an expiring salary by the middle of next season (at the latest) if they have any hope of keeping Granger, which I think they should do, assuming Granger and George can play well together.
So to answer the original question, we should trade Green for an expiring contract or draft pick. If we get a draft pick, then we should look at a free agent. If Redd still has some game left, he would be good.

Re: Scoring option off bench
I think Granger will come off the bench at first. I assume he'll be on a pitch count and it will be easier to keep him minutes within what the Doctors want if he is on the 2nd unit.
