State of the Pacers: 1/31/13

Post#1 » by chatard5 » Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:08 pm

Hey guys. I haven't been on RealGM too much lately. I will definitely be around more! And I started my own blog. As some of you may remember, I would have posts that would be WAY too long. Even too long for a blog! But I just started this, www.midwestsportsdude.blogspot.com. I'm not sure of the rules and understand if you guys have to remove e-mail addresses or whatever. But I would love to hear your feedback and get some constructive criticism. This is only my 4th article I have put online (excluding about 25 posts I have on here that were 12 paragraphs long). I'd appreciate if you read it and have any thoughts to please post comments! I'd love to get a conversation going. And future articles there will definitely be more debate and people who think I am crazy-even more than you already do!

I hope to keep writing articles and actually have another one close to complete (I actually had that one almost finished when I decided I should start a site!) So hopefully I will have that one up later today. As I said, I'm not sure of the rules so you guys may not want me posting links, but my plan is to post the entire article if that's okay. I just hope that I can get some comments on the site, as well as some replies here, of course. Thanks for reading, here she is:

We will get to possible trade scenarios, trade rumors, and maybe even talk a little bit about sports betting. But this being the first post on my new sports blog, I thought it appropriate to write about the 27-19 Pacers on the last day of January in 2013. The last day of January: this, of course, is the 31st. The first post had to be on the 31st in honor, of course, to the best clutch shooter, best 3-point shooter, and best Pacer of all-time: Mr. Reggie Miller.

Don't worry, there will be a lot written about Reggie Miller in the near future. But right now we are in the heart of the NBA season. And we Pacer fans are witnessing the best Pacers team since Reggie Miller!

The Pacers won last night against a poor Pistons team at home last night. This was to end a 3-game losing streak, the Pacers 2nd 3-game skid of the year. The Pacers had a very tough 4 game road trip that started out great in Memphis with a win on ESPN. At this point I was hoping we could go 3-1 on a road trip. Then was Portland which was, well... we aren't going to talk about that game.

Things were not looking good when the Pacers lost by 20 in Portland and we had to go to Utah and Denver, 2 playoff teams that are very good at home. The Pacers were playing poorly against Utah until a late run. It looked like the Pacers could actually pull off this great comeback! But they had to play against the refs as well as Utah and the Pacers lost by 4 in OT. So we go from one high altitude game to another in Denver after a tough loss. Not many teams are going to win this game. And it looked like the Pacers didn't want to either.

We are down 14 with 6:30 to go. Time for most teams to just mail it and get back home… But this is the Pacers, led by one of the best coaches in the NBA, 39-year-old Frank Vogel. So the Pacers make a remarkable comeback, going on a 13-0 run to tie the game with under a minute to go. The Pacers actually have the ball with just seconds left-we can win this game! Paul George has an unfortunate turnover. So with little time left it looks like the Pacers are going to overtime. Then the refs decided they were tired and wanted to go home. They make an AWFUL call, which the NBA has even admitted was an incorrect call (http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_224 ... -vs-pacers).

So what could've been a 3-1 trip was a 1-3 trip, which is obviously disappointing. To many teams this could be devastating. But so would be missing your best player for at least half the season. But this is no ordinary team. I believe this Indiana Pacers team is much better than the team that was up 2-1 in the 2nd round of the playoffs on the Miami Heat. The Pacers come back strong and take down the Pistons by 19-which they should do. Now they face a tough test on Friday playing that Heat team that they took to 6 games in the playoffs last year. They get to face them on ESPN. And if you haven’t seen, they will be wearing these jerseys:

So I am excited to see the Pacers play on ESPN against the defending champs in some of the best jerseys of all-time! I think the win against the Pistons is 1 of many in a row- with a HUGE one being against the Heat!

Please keep checking in! I hope to have a new blog up soon with topics including the trade deadline, what the Celtics will do, and, if anything, do the Pacers try and make a move, along with why the Pacers will finish 2nd in the East.

I'd like to hear what your opinion is! Please share in the comments or e-mail me MidwestSportsDude@gmail.com and find me on Twitter @MWSportsDude.

Thanks RealGM guys! I hope you enjoyed it. I wanted to just do an overview since it was my first article. I think the next one will definitely have some mixed opinions and be more interesting. I will keep you posted. Thanks all!

I love your optimism. Nice article :D

Good stuff and welcome back. Hope to see you more often.

Since i joined this forum, the most popular topics of conversation have always been possible trade talks (remember all the Troy Murphy to Cleveland talk for a 1st/Hickson?) and draft threads, as we followed possible top-10 picks to see who Indiana will pick. Those are always fun, but, it's much more fun talking about actual games and breaking down the team against the likes of the Heat and such.

Thanks for the comments. Of course I post it when I think I have a little extra time and then get extra unforseen work. Guess that isn't a bad thing. I still hope to post some stuff, especially down the stretch and into the playoffs. And I will check in on other threads hopefully daily like I used to.

And of course there has to be a trade deadline one! I am excited for the trade deadline this year. I do, however, say that every year.
