I think Cleveland has the space to abosorb Granger's deal. Their free agent target is 2014 anyway. They would like to improve next year. Since they also have a lotto pick and have a large number of young players already a vereran might look better than another very young guy.

Atlanta is talking about chasing Howard and Paul so dealing with Teague will be back burner. Get the cap space by moving Granger and jump out there early on with an offer for Teague. Say 6 mil/year for 3 years. That may undervalue him and patience might render a better deal for him we couldn't justify, just kidk'n ideas around.

Another combo guard that's seemingly a mirror image of George Hill? Nah, I'll pass.

We have $10m to spend this offseason for about 3-4 roster spots before the tax. However, next offseason, barring any other changes, we will only have about $9m, but with almost 7 spots to fill.

Thus, money this year isn't really tight, but next year, it's really tight.

I dont think you make any drastic chemistry changes to the team this offseason unless its for a superstar meaning CP3; Curry or D-Will type of point guard. And even then u have to consider how much u would give up to do it. I think this team is one big pickup from excellence or one bad move from what-if stories and a fired Gm in five years when Paul George is unrestricted. This team has to do everything right within the next two off-seasons to make it over the hump into the finals for a chance to retire #24 as a Pacer. I dont think Teague gets the Pacers some jewelry.

I know we have 2014 looming and signing a guy like Teague further complicates the cap considerations.

I throw this out there for those who think we have to get more out of the point guard position. I see no way we get a Paul, Williams, Curry or the like. Look at what these guys cost not o mention we don't have the assets to get them without gutting other areas of the team. Teague is a guy who will still get better and might be acquirable. I'm not sold on this strategy, but see something like this as the path to upgrading the pg position.

I think we're looking for someone who will take Augustin type money or less. I'm thinking guys like Jack and Watson when we signed them. maybe even a 35 year old who'll take the veteran minimum.

I think Teague is a ball dominant guy, ideally. I'd rather find a guy who fits better in the flow of an offensive system, and quite frankly, won't be a ridiculous burden on the cap and keep us from making any offer to Lance.

I've go not statistical data to refute the ball dominate contention and frankly don't watch Atl other than when they play us. But, in college he played with another point guard and until last year Joe Johnson played the 2 who I always thought handled the ball alot. So I question whether he's had the opportunity to be ball dominate?

I could see where he would put too much pressure on the cap to persue.

You mention Lance, it was pointed out on another thread that he will be unrestricted in 2014. I didn't realize that and I would think that could further complicte the cap picture next summer. If Lance on a whim moves on you might like having a guy like Teague fall back on.

Teague would have to be your starting SG then. I'd prefer an actual SG then.

For me, I'd go hard after Billups. $2-4m one year deal. That leaves about $6-8m for another 3 roster spots to fill outside of our 1st. I like Copeland from NY for about $2m and then we need a bet big man off the bench. Would Brand take a $3-4m deal?

I like this strategy; this in my opinion would be a very successful offseason. There wouldnt be enough minutes for all of them but ultimately I think the bench woes would be history.

Yah we seem to be in pretty good position to offer meaningful minutes on a contender to a couple of nice vets.
Guys like Brand who have been paid would have to consider a cheap deal in such a good organization.

He's a coach. He's fine in theory, strategy, and on court stuff. He's not an executive. But, in all fairness, very few basketball media members understand how a trade works. Almost all of them spout off deals every year hat aren't even close to legal.

Until he's he's shown he can play I too would be surprised if Granger can be moved. In fact healthy or not I think chances are that the window for trading him has closed. But, there are teams who will have cap space that aren't destinations for premier free agents.

I know Dakich has to fill air time so not every idea that gets kicked around will be completely thought out. Teague being a local guy who can play seemed worthy of conversation.

I'd rather just sign Jarret Jack to be honest.

If the money were the same between Teague and Jack, I'd stick with Teague.

He's younger and as a result has some upside while I think Jack is pretty much a finished product. I also think he is closer to being a traditional point than Jack and maybe a little more able to create his own shot?
