Let the Bird-to-Pacers speculation begin. According to the Sacramento Bee, Bird has withdrawn his interest in the Kings job. And is considering a return to the Pacers.

Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird, who has discussed the Kings GM vacancy with new owner Vivek Ranadive and said to be at least mildly intrigued, told team officials that he is no longer interested in the position. Bird sat out the 2012-13 season and is weighing a return to the Indiana Pacers - where he has an open invitation to resume his role as the team's top basketball executive - or whether to extend his sabbatical to a second season, both for personal and health reasons.

I don't think Bird had any intention of going to the Kings. He was just getting a feel for his market value.

In my opinion, there are only 4 places Bird will want to be. Boston (Ainge isn't going anywhere), Miami (Riley isn't going anywhere), Orlando or the Pacers.

I look for Bird to either return to the Pacers as President and minority owner or sit out one more year.

Eh, I don't think he cares what his "market value" is. He's made plenty of money. I think he was being polite to Ranadive, and that Ranadive may have approached him with a willingness to make an "offer he couldn't refuse".

I think he gets more than enough money from Simon. He's mentioned that it's never money. I think it's all about fit, and whether he's healthy, and his family is in a good spot. If I recall, his son had some serious legal issues in Bloomington in the past year.
