Will add source later. But he has officially been hired.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9419087/denver-nuggets-agree-hire-brian-shaw-head-coachBrian Shaw was hired as the coach of the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, securing his first NBA head coaching job after nearly a decade as an assistant.
Shaw confirmed that he had been hired by Denver during an exclusive interview with ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne.
"I'm so appreciative for the opportunity to be able to lead this team and for the faith that Josh Kroenke and Tim Connelly have put in me," Shaw told Shelburne. "It's been a long time coming. I've been prepared by the best of the best for a long time. I'm just really looking forward to it."

Congrats to B Shaw! No one deserves it more.. Learned so much from him!
After years of being one of the best head coaches on the market, Brian Shaw has been hired. Sad to see him go.

No one has been so deserving for so long without the chance like Shaw. Good for him.
We'll miss him, but I never expected to have him for 2 seasons. Let alone 3. We were lucky to have him here at all.

Im glad he got a job with a good team and out west. Didnt want to see him in Brooklyn or anywhere East to be honest. It has been a great few years with him beside Vogel.

So who do we hire to succeed Shaw? Seen a report the organization prefers someone with head coaching experience. As of right now, assuming he doesn't agree to become a HC this offseason, I'd offer Lionel Hollins a deal similar to Shaw's.

He's worked his way up as a ref, and doing fine. He's not giving that up for coaching. He's guaranteed a job for another 20 years, with no fear of being fired.
Also, he has NO coaching experience. Though, we could do the rest of the NBA a favor and try and hire Joey Crawford just keep him from reffing another game.....

Alvin Gentry? Lionel Hollins? Scott Skiles? Steal Lawrence Frank out from underneath the Nets?

Nate McMillan met with Vogel today to discuss the opening.

Not sure there are many more accomplished ex players in the coaching ranks than McMillan. Gotta give Frank Vogel credit. Let's just say he's a little more secure than his predecessor.
Sign him up.

Job security is better for ref's can't argue that.
I'd rather an ex-player with no experience than Chuck Person. If a guy is basically immature and under achieves as a player it's just hard for me to see the acquisition of coach qualities happening.

I like the idea of McMillan; however I wouldnt be opposed to L Hollins; Lawrence Frank; or even a guy like Scott Skiles. He should consider Reggie Miller as an additional assistant other than the lead. Then when the next team takes an assistant to be their coach; Reg can step right into that role smoothly. Miller may be able to provide valuable information to Vogel right now; considering he played under Carlisle and Larry Brown; two of the best coaches that have won a championship.

McMillan sounds like my favorite option at this point, though I don't think he wants to become an assistant. There's so many coaching vacancies that I think he can easily become a head coach. If Larry Drew can, why can't he?
But an interesting idea is Reggie Miller. He's familiar with the organization obvious, has playing experience, and he'd probably be a player's coach. He couldn't be the lead assistant, but it's a thought. I think it'd work well. Allowing Reggie to work for the Pacers in some form or fashion is a good idea in the first place I think.

It's much harder for me to see a player who has never coached, and never exhibited coach like qualities while playing to all of a sudden be a good candidate as a lead assistant coach.

McMillan is not a candidate for either of the last two head coaching spots left (Philly and Boston).
Reggie? He'd have to be willing to take a massive pay cut, and publicity cut to take an assistant coaching job with us. And based on his announcing, I'm not so sure he has much to offer as a coach.

Reggie Miller played under Carlisle and Larry Brown. I would bet he has some knowledge for the sidelines; not to mention big game experience preparation to share with the players.

Good players don't always make for good coaches. He was a guy who was coached, not really who coached his teammates.

Way too much ego for Reggie to ever be someone"s assistant.
