PG24 update from Team USA Mini-Camp

Post#1 » by OnFire » Thu Jul 25, 2013 2:33 pm

this felt good to read.
love this kid. we better
lock him up long. 8-)

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/paul-george-returns-team-usa-200148421--oly.html

George used the lessons he learned about preparation, practice habits and commitment to catapult him through a breakout season with the Indiana Pacers. He returned to Las Vegas a year later for a four-day minicamp as one of the young stars projected to one day lead Team USA into international competition.

Krzyzewski said he was ''anxious'' to see George workout this week. He watched George's emergence for the Pacers last season and could see some of the work habits start to pay off for him.

George won't turn 24 until next May, but his experiences make him feel like a veteran on the 28-player roster that reported to Vegas this week. Anthony Davis is the only Olympian who is at the camp, so George is trying to take a leadership role and pass on some of the lessons he learned last summer to new faces like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Harrison Barnes.

if he could take his game
yet another notch, and become
a vocal leader, no doubt he'll
be Reggie's heir apparent
in Pacers lore.

Eh, he'll likely get an offer for a 25% max for 5 years this summer, but his agent will likely hold out for an offer of 5 years "maximum salary available to player" offer, which guarantee the 25% max, but allow for the 30% max if he meets the guidelines this year. It's a weird quirk that is allowed for in the CBA.

wall's deal is ridiculous, IMO.

i think it'll hurt us in negos
with PG 'coz it set a benchmark,
with a lesser player signing it
at that.

Wall will earn it if he's healthy. He's a tremendous player, and has been a good locker room guy in Washington, right when they needed one. He's a dynamic super young talent. If they didn't offer him a max, someone else would've.

100% agree. Wall is a dynamic talent that IMO is simply not as known as he should be due to being in Washington and coming out of school at a time in which the league was (and still is) stacked with awesome PGs. He left college when guys like Westbrook and Rose were coming into their own on top of already established guys such as CP3, TP, DWill, Nash, and so on.

As for Paul George, I hope he continues learning and expanding his game playing with such talent. As far as his max extension, I'm not worried at the moment. History says we will likely get it done. Unless PG24 would make some kind of statement that unequivocally says he wants to play in a larger narket or something of that nature, I probably won't worry.

Wall is also a quiet kid. Much like George is. You know, we knew early this year that George was a dynamic talent, but the rest of the league didn't see it until the playoffs. Once Wall gets a playoff series to showcase in, everyone will know it.

Im hoping he doesnt get overused and burnt out at USA camp. He played lots of minutes this season and will log as many next season. Hopefully he gets a reasonable amount of rest this off-season. I am excited about him being there to get the experience and hopefully make some improvements; George Hill should be there too!
