An extra roster spot now...

With the Scola trade, we now have a little more cap space and added one more open roster spot...

(not a depth chart, just listing positions)
C - Roy Hibbert, Ian Mahinmi
PF - David West, Chris Copeland, Luis Scola
SF - Danny Granger, Solomon Hill
SG - Paul George, Lance Stephenson, Orlando Johnson
PG - George Hill, CJ Watson, Donald Sloan

Do the math and that means 2 roster spots - looking at another wing and a 5, probably one or both on non-fully-guaranteed contracts. Who's out there?

Bigs - Marcus Camby, Chris Wilcox, DeJuan Blair, Gustavo Ayon, Earl Barron, Drew Gooden, Jason Collins, Johan Petro, Lou Amundson
Wings - Sam Young, Leandro Barbosa, Daequan Cook, Keyon Dooling, Tracy McGrady, Damien Wilkins, Antawn Jamison, Austin Daye, Ronnie Brewer, Dahntay Jones, James Jones, Mickael Pietrus, Jerry Stackhouse, Lance Thomas, Malcolm Thomas

Thoughts?

Marcus Camby for the vet min.

I wouldn't necessarily get a 15th guy, but if we do, maybe Stack or Leandro.

Maybe this means we're bringing back Sam Young? I thought he had a deal with the Kings, but maybe that fell through. Ronnie Brewer wouldn't be bad in a similar role.

I'm not sure there's a worthwhile big out there. Camby wouldn't get minutes so would never sign with us. Petro might not be bad as strictly size insurance.

Oden is supposed to decide tomorrow. I'd throw our hat in that ring although Scola can play 5. there is also Stone Hands Jordan from our summer league team who would be worth a camp invite.

I expect it to be Gustavo Ayon.

Bird wanted him when he first was looking to sign with an NBA team and now he's available for the minimum I would imagine.

The Scola deal gives us a little more wiggle room. We'll see what happens.

I would guess that wiggle room is more for next year than this year. When we will be trying to fit Lance, and Paul in new contracts. Especially considering Paul's may be the super sized 30% max.

I think they sign a third 5 and leave the final roster spot open. I would prefer Camby; Petro; or Ayon. Camby is likely looking for a team to play regular minutes so its likely the latter two are the best options.

Jerome Jordan had a look but didn't impress one bit in Summer league so i would imagine he killed any chance of getting a contract. Ayon would be a nice addition to the depth.

Whatever happened with Gani Lawal? Pacers had interest in him a while ago, if i recall he was supposed to play on our summer league team but never did. Maybe Pacers give him another call?

Or Ivan Johnson... he's still out there.

I could see Camby getting some PT with us. The main reason I think that is because Ian barely got any run (even a couple DNP-CD's during the playoffs.) I could see old-school Vogel giving Camby some run when the matchup doesn't suit Ian.

I would prefer Ayon but if he would be too costly, there are some options left in the market. Camby is too much of a risk for me. Him being healthy when the team will need him is not going to be a guarantee. I'd prefer someone younger and more athletic.

I really like Ivan Johnson but he would be too small to play center, if he's taller, he'd be an ideal scenario. Ayon would get a ton of steals for his size, and I can see him getting decent minutes if we need someone faster than Mahinmi. Another player I am thinking about is Cole Aldrich. Also undrafted players like Zeke Marshall and Jack Cooley.

I'm pretty sure Sam signed with the Spurs.

I'd love to get Barbosa back. He'd add exactly what we need as an emergency wing. Solid presence and can hit the 3.

Correct me if I am wrong but Pendergraph is the one who signed with the Spurs, right? And Sam Young is still a free agent?

That's what I thought. Pendy did sign with the Spurs and supposedly the Kings has interest in Young but I don't think any contract was signed.

Looks like he is trying to get a ring before he retires

You're right, sorry fellas.

I'd rather have Barbosa over Young though.

Gustavo Ayon claimed by Hawks off of waivers. Getting down to slim pickings at this point.
