westfield? way too far without a convenient way in. maybe off 70. there are some at 21st and Shadeland that are a quick hop downtown or on the other side of town there are many near the airport in Plainfield. there are also some cheaper options downtown that shouldn't be overlooked if you will be drinking beer.

where are you coming from? if you are coming from Chicago, there are options off 65 or 865 too.

I think you are on the right track. there are a four motels west of the football stadium (Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood, Comfort Suites, and Staybridge) plus two (Fairfield and Springhill) by the baseball park) and one just west of the basketball fieldhouse (homewood suites). parking is probably cheaper in the ones South of the stadium nearer the Luc. there is one on Washington east of the fieldhouse too that has gone through several names and is now a LaQuinta. I left out the ones I assume are more expensive.

you might price compare the ones at I465 and Michigan Road on the far NW side. you'd hit them first coming from Chicago if you take 865 East from 65 on the far north side.

I would highly recommend staying downtown. You may have to pay a little more at a hotel, and parking will be $10-25 more per night, per car, but you could walk to the game, it's safe, and you don't have to figure out parking for the game either.

I used to manage hotels, and have always loved the Marriott brands. There's a ton of 'em downtown. If you want, you could live in the lap of luxury in the brand new JW Marriott for a night, and walk to the game for under $250 after tax. If you're looking a bit cheaper, the Courtyard or Residence Inn on the Canal could be safer bets. the Residence Inn brands have great free breakfasts and free coffee all day (decent coffee, too), as well as huge hotel rooms on average. Walk to dinner, walk to the game, or the hotels may even shuttle you for free.

Otherwise, I'd recommend Keystone at the Crossing on the northside (Keystone Avenue and I-465). It's a great area to stay with shopping and dining. The airport area should get you cheap stays, and still only a 10-15 minute drive in. I probably wouldn't stay on the eastside in the Shadeland area. I used to work around there before I left Indy and it wasn't exactly a great place to be around.

I used to favor the Choice line (Quality, Comfort, etc.) but when we started visiting our grandson in Denver regularly we found that the most convenient hotel was a Marriott and now we don't stay anywhere else. we like both Residence Inns and Fairfields. you are right that Marriott has a whole complex of choices built around their new JW near Victory Field. don't know how those prices compare to further out or even the new hotels on West Street which are a little more off the regular track. they might have better deals if there isn't anything going on at the nearby Luc. paying $200 plus is a little steep if you are planning to come for multiple games.

best night life for the under 30 crowd is either downtown or Broad Ripple. you couldn't go wrong stopping at the Slippery Noodle after the game and then walking on to West Street motels.

If you like live music, there's simply no better place to be than the Slippery Noodle. You avoid most of the over-amped 21-25 age group, but still have a great age variety (21-70 on any given night) and comfortable environment to enjoy a few drinks.

Also, in terms of parking, since it will, more than likely, be nice out, you can probably find a place on the street outside of the metered areas. You might have to walk a few blocks, but it'll save ya a few bucks. I live on Mass Ave and everyday I see people feeding the meters when they, literally, could drive a few hundred feet over and park all day for free.

I believe there is a $5.00 lot, too, on Alabama right before the garage. Downtown is nice and safe, too.

Im sure anything beats the Chicago price of $20-$30 for a spot.

I always part on Delaware which is one way north. it is no parking until 6 which means that the sooner you get there right after 6 the shorter your walk will be. it used to be free after 6 but now the meters come back on you have to pay until I think it is 8. the meters take credit cards and are smart enough to know when free parking begins so you can just keep adding time to the meter and when it gets to what you need to pay for it will stop.

when I can't park there, there are some lots south and east of the fieldhouse that are reasonable. my favorite is gone as they built the complex with the Alexander Hotel on what used to be a good $5 lot. I don't know if the lot south of South Street off Delaware is still there. you can also park on the roof of the garage for less money that parking inside of it.

But, I don't think you can request the roof, can you?

When we went to a Bulls game, which was sold out, we had to park on the roof, due to everything else being full. I would love to just be able to go straight to the roof every time.

Also, I live close, but I'm not nuts enough to walk in the winter.

there is a separate entrance to the roof parking. I think it is off Delaware where the main garage entrance is off Alabama and Maryland.

Ah, nice! I never knew that... I just make one left turn and head up Alabama right into the garage.

Whenever i go to games i stay at the La Quinta. No complaints. Very cool staff, friendly and helpful each time i have visited. Small walk from Conseco Fieldhouse and right next door to a pretty cool Helipad.
