Can't wait for the season to start, as I was reading stuff online I realised that it might be nice to talk about:

Why the Pacers?

I realise for some/most of you it might simply be that you are in Indiana, but you never know!

Personally I became a Pacers fan at a time when Jordan was dominating the planet of basketball. It was hard to follow the NBA (No internet!) but Rik Smits was frequently discussed in various media. As such I decided that Smits was it, I loved this mythical creature Reggie Miller that could shoot 3s from anywhere [because Smits would get the rebound anyway!].

All my friends were Bulls or Lakers fans and I like the underdog. Pacers it was!

Hey all, I don't usually post over here, but I'm an Indiana fan as well (consider them my EC team). I usually post in OKC's board, but follow both for an east/west combo. I'm a fan of the team b/c when I was a kid (maybe like 7/8/9 years old?) my mom bought me my first jersey, and it was Reggie Miller's, so I became a fan. He's still my all time fave player, have an autographed photo on my living room wall, and of course the jersey which would be awesome if I could get signed someday (a sports dream of mine). I don't like following favorites all the time, so OKC and Indy are kind of good "underdog" type stories, as although they're not bad teams by any mean, they're rarely favored to win championships, and are smaller markets. If OKC can't win it all, I root for Indy as well (sorry to be a half and half fan, please don't hate me!).

It was the hometown underdog story of them versus Jordan's Bulls for me. Hooked me in and I've rode with them ever since.

I grew up playing video games and since Indiana was the home team I always used them on the game.. so over the years I grew to love them. Recently I found out I was moving and began to choose to root for a team near the new city I would live in but I decided it was just wrong, so I'm not giving up on the Pacers.

Reggie Miller made me a Pacers fan.

I admire you for being able to love two teams. For me I'm a one team kind of guy. I feel like I'm cheating if I root for another team on a regular basis.

I kind of do feel like I'm cheating! The thing for me is the NBA is the main sport I never really watched with my dad. I grew up in PA but the northeast part of the state, so about the same distance to either Philly or NYC. My dad raised me a NY Giants fan, and I became a Phillies and Flyers fan on my own accord, but never had an NBA team that my dad liked (he liked Walton, but though he was a basketball player his whole life, never followed the NBA much). So starting w/ Reggie, I became a Pacers fan, then after the Malace at the Palace/Reggie's retirement needed a new player to follow. I followed Lebron on the Cavs, but couldn't bring myself to root for him after the decision fiasco, so started to root for KD and OKC, and really found that I like the whole team there too. In some ways I think the teams are similar, and the front offices are run the same as well.

No prob, honestly I floated away from the Pacers for a lil while, but find them really likeable again. The Artest Detriot issue made me turn away, but thats not in Indy now, and Artest is Metta, o I kinda like him too

Same here. My parents hated sports so I had no ties and there was no hometown team where I grew up. Reggie had a different game than most players and was someone I felt I could emulate (since I was never athletic or tall enough to dunk).
