It has been mentioned in the 'now that we lost' thread. West seems to be shooting pretty poorly. His numbers have certainly regressed since last year.

Let me make clear, I still love West and think resigning him was the right thing, but he needs to be our reliable 2nd option in offense and he isn't this year. He went from a .499 FG% to .448 that is a serious regression and I have been wondering about the reasons for it.

Is it because we try and run more plays for George, meaning that West has to vacate the inside at times to create room?

Is it because on D Hibbert seems to be more focussed on squatting the ball, meaning West has to focus on the rebound and in turn resulting him being late in the offensive paint?

Similarly, is it because with George and Stephenson there is a lot of break-play rather than half-court?

Or is it simply because West seems to be relying on his outside shot a bit more than he should?

I'd guess it is just a small sample size although that's probably just another way of saying temporary blip.

Maybe its just early season rust from him. Maybe he can shake all that off soon and continue to play like he did last year.

He isn't taking as many shots with George and Stephenson emerging and Scola playing more minutes. That shrinks the sample size even more.

He's taken 104 shots. He's made 46. That's 44.8%. 50% is literally just 6 shots' difference.

With West's age, he is going to have regression, but with his game, that regression is going to be really slow.

You can clearly tell, this team is still trying to figure things out, that's why this hot start is scary! just wait til they fine tune everything.

I think that Wests production has gone down for two reasons...

A. Stephenson and George are shooting more.

B. West is not playing the same amount of minutes as the last two seasons. He is replaced by Scola after the first 7 mins every game in the first quarter (most players need more early PT to get a rhythm). He only plays about 20-28 mins a game this season vs. 30 or more last season. I expect for his production and mins to be below last season for the long haul which may be a good thing come playoff time. The team has more scoring options.

The regression doesn't meant he is playing worse. PG Is our superstar and is more assertive and Lance has emerged further. West simply doesn't need to score as much at the moment as he did last season.
He is unselfish and will do what is needed to help win, not boost his own stats.
