Any chance the Pacers win 70?

Post#1 » by Flight33 » Mon Dec 2, 2013 5:06 pm

The east is so weak, the only team that presents a real challenge to them is Miami, and if they split the season series that is only 2 losses.

So does anyone think they have a real shot at 70 wins?

No. The East might be weak, but there are still a few teams in the West as well :)

We will always walk into some losses that were unexpected anyway. Our only loss this season (Bulls) serves as an illustration.

Edit: If we come out of this road-trip with a 20-1 record I will begin to believe it is possible and still be ready to be disappointed.
Vogel is Dutch for Bird.

We are talking about an all time record here, they are there for a reason. It's not likely that it will be broken. Especially given that if the Pacers have a high seed locked, I imagine there will be rest for the playoffs for many key guys.

Technically, the Pacers are on track to win 77 (I believe), but there's no way that happens. We've had a pretty cakewalk schedule to be honest (not to detract from our team's play), and Vogel will almost certainly rest our guys later in the season, just like he did last year, to prepare for the playoffs after we have a high seed locked up.

I looked through the schedule and as of today, I'd say there is definitely a chance.
For Comparison:
The bulls with Rose and a great defensive team won 62 games. The pacers have an MVP caliber player alongside a better defensive team with way better offensive support, in a MUCH worse league. If they win all the games they should(their play predicated on defense helps these odds), I think it is a obtainable goal.

I definitely think its possible. I dont think Vogel will have the opportunity to put the team on cruise control this season because they are playing for the number one seed. And we all know Miami will quietly be on our heels all year. I find it interesting that ppl continue to point out that the Pacers wins have only come against below .500 opponents as if they havent beaten teams that are playoff bound. (Memphis, Chicago (with ROse), and Detroit to name a few.) This team has won against all of the best western conference teams last season except Denver with limited bench production. I expect to win in the 60's but with health and the return of Granger sometime soon; 70 isnt out of the question.

And I think it's funny cause they knock the pacers for playing under .500 teams but the pacers took care if business against them and won but the heat have lost against Philly Boston Chicago (without rose) Brooklyn and Detroit. Yet they still diss the pacers cause they had an easy schedule and talk the heat up even though they lost against sub par teams..
