Let's hope he comes back fighting fit this time, if so, that is great news and great timing, on the back of this horrendous stretch of games.

This is a big test. If he plays like the last few games he's played I don't want him playing, even off the bench.

If he can provide a good scoring option as 6th, then by all means play him.

We've seen this before. Fingers crossed.

But very exciting news...

it may take him a while to find his shot but think about our current rotation. we send Lance to the bench first so that he is rested when needed with the second unit. OJ is fine for the minutes before the rest of the second unit comes in but when it does we have Lance and CJ in the backcourt. Scola and Mahinmi are the bigs. that has left us with either OJ or SHill to fill out the unit. neither Lance nor OJ are really 3's although to the extent they can defend the position we can make it work. Granger doesn't have to score like he used to in order to be an upgrade over S Hill. by own view is that he just has to score enough to remove the pressure to score from Lance.

and if Lance and PG can get more rest in back to backs, watch out.

I'm really wanting Danny to come back in force because I just simply do not have faith in OJ or Solo. I haven't seen anything really positive from them at all and I would love for their minutes to be Dannys.

Yup. We've gotten great minutes from OJ and, to some extent, Solo, thus far. However, over the long haul, and if we want the bench to continue to be strong, as well as our starters to stay rested, we need a Danny Granger that can play 9 out of every 10 games, and play 20-30 minutes a night.

I hate to be a downer, but another unexpected setback? I'm shocked.

Even expecting Danny to come back and EVER play 30 minutes per game in his career again just isn't going to happen. Clearly that knee just isn't holding up. Not to say I don't hope he will be good, but its just unrealistic at this point.

the report doesn't speak of an unexpected setback or a knee issue. remember Vogel expressed surprise on Wednesday that Friday was even a possibility. personally I don't see the downside of activating him instead of Butler but they are being cautious. I think they'd be smart to bring him back when he is still on a very short pitch count and starting isn't in the picture. back in the summer I thought we'd see Lance, Paul, and Danny all get substantial minutes but things have changed. we're 19-3 and our starting unit is great. they'll all be back next year and Danny will not. barring injury or foul trouble I would not tinker with the starting five's rotation other than perhaps going to a full five man second unit substitution (CJ, OJ, Granger, Scola, and Mahinmi) instead of taking Lance out early so he can come back early.

I'd be happy to see Danny just be able to play 20-28 minutes a night off the bench behind Lance and PG.

I'd take 10 to 15 minutes and I think he'll start there and have to earn the rest.

I agree if he doesn't play good I don't think the pacers should play him he needs to earn the minutes and prove that he can still play.

The team is playing at a certain level that Granger just isn't at right now, even for the bench. All indications do say he's healthy, though.

Yeah, who wouldn't be happy with that? But do you realistically EXPECT that?

In Larry's interview he said that they are in no rush to get granger back but that he his fully healthy... Am I the only one that thinks that we need to get him back now? I mean we have no clue what he can do anymore I think the pacers need to play him so we can see him so he can get chemistry and so he can get rhythm and conditioning so that come the middle season we have a full an healthy granger so we can battle with the heat and be the number one seed in the east. I don't expect granger to play for another week or so.

I don't think chemistry issues will be there with a guy they practice with every day. Also, Danny's style of play isn't a disruptive style at all. He doesn't need to dominate the ball and is solid defensively. Think of just much better versions of what OJ, Solo, and Cope have given us.
