Very minor, but more than just summer league. Appears he'll be in camp. 6'10" PF/C out of Western Michigan. Was a senior. Pure Pf/C that plays inside. Interesting option. Appears a much better prospect than the immortal John Edwards, but unlikely he'd be anything more than an emergency big man this year.

@ScottAgness: Undrafted rookie Shayne Whittington (@Whittington21) has agreed in principle to sign a non-guaranteed deal w/ the Pacers, per @Drew_on_WMU.

W-w-w-why? We've got Ian, Cope, and Scola still under contract, and it appears we intend to bring Lavoy back. Is Shayne Whittington widely desired around the league or something?

He was one of the better undrafted free agents this year, especially if the big men.

Also, it's completely non-guaranteed for the minimum, so it's basically a tryout.

But, otherwise, CHAMPIONSHIP.

I'd guess Pacers would be in the market to move any of those three for pure cap space.

The kid missed out on doing workouts because he had a fractured leg. He's totally worth the $$ though. Dealing with him now means no one can swoop in when his polish shows in summer league. It's a nice move to fill out the end of the bench.

I keep on messing up with the first letters of his first and last names, no kidding.

He won't be able to play summer league. He's likely out until January from his fibia injury.

Fibula
Yep, saw the summer league news after my post, thanks for noticing :)
I saw a more aggressive timeline though. 4 months for the leg (sustained in May) should get him mostly in shape for training camp.

$25k guaranteed. Minimum salary of $505k. However, for tax purposes, his salary will count as $915k, so that sucks.

@ScottAgness: #Pacers big man Shayne @Whittington21: "After 13 weeks of rest and rehab, I was finally cleared to workout @ game speed. Felt great today."

Pacers President Larry Bird likes Whittington’s skill set and said last month, “We think he’s going to be a pretty good player for us down the road.”
