Pacers Sign CJ Miles, 4 years $18 million

Damn shame really. Pacers have really done a piss poor job this offseason so far IMO.

The theme this year is shooters. The big euro forward and now Miles.

Still I can't possibly think of a way to retain Lance now. Scola will HAVE to be cut go even have a chance.

I can't possibly see this pacer team not makin a trade or something to get a shooting guard. Pacers have no one who is a starting SG on this team

So with this signing and the signing of Rudez, have we essentially spent our mid level exception?

I just read that if the pacers waive scola an stretch mahinmi they could offer lance a 5 year 50 mill. What's stretch mean??

Yes. The two combined take up the entire MLE, and we don't have any other exceptions this year, like the BAE (used on Watson last year).

I love CJ Miles and we got him on a decent deal, but this sucks. I don't see how we can keep Lance now. I guess Bird decided he would give his best offer to Lance, if he didn't take it then he wasn't letting him test the waters for a better deal and seeing all the decent free agents get picked up. I guess we could possibly do it by getting rid of Scola and Copeland for nothing, but that's easier said than done.

it refers to waiving a player even though the contract is guaranteed and stretching out the hit.

And then what? Lavoy Allen is to be trusted to play major minutes off the bench?

youi'd have to trade someone to a team who doesn't have to send equal dollars back. trading Hibbert or Hill would create the most room although you can get some room from Cope, Mahinmi, or Scola.

Stretch=waive under the stretch provision. You can waive any player, and designate the cap hit from their contract to be stretched over multiple years instead of, say, one. It's always a 1 for one, plus 1 provision. So, Ian, with 2 more years on his deal, could have his cap hit stretched over a total of 5 seasons at $1.6m instead of just 2 years at $4m each.

My son plays for CJ's AAU team. CJ has been somewhat of a mentor to him, and dude is a great guy.

We talked to CJ about 2 weeks ago, I'm a Sixer fan so I tried my hardest to talk him to Philly LMAO. He told me he couldn't go to us and win 15 games. He said he wanted to compete for Championships and win.

I know Portland was really on his radar from what he told us. I'm surprised he went to yall honestly, but I think u guys picked up a great guy seriously.

I think Lance stays for about 9.5 mil per year honestly.

Wish we could offer Lance $9.5m. Right now, barring a more massive deal where we move Roy or Hill and take back way less salary, we're pretty well topped out at about a $5-6m offer.

Honestly im not a huge Lance guy. I love his potential, enthusiasm, effort. However, Lance's game is out of control. Also, I wonder what happens to him off the court once he gets paid. I'de obviously rather have Lance over CJ but I guess i can live with this.

That's the problem.

The names on this team,
CJ Miles, CJ Watson, Paul George, George Hill, and Solomon Hill. Quinn Buckner should have fun with that this year.

No one with the cap space to take on Hibbert or Hill will do so at this point. So many good free agents and you waste it on Hibbert/Hill? no way.

Moving both Cope and Scola opens up a little more than 7 million, which MIGHT be enough, but then we don't have money for Lavoy, and we'd be relying on Ian for all of the backup big man minutes.

But we still haven't picked up Donald Sloan's option, correct?

CJ always seemed like a poor BBIQ guy to me. Get ready for lots of, 'What the hell is CJ doing' moments.

My favorites were the ball watching. A shot would go up and he'd be standing out in no man's land just watching the ball go to the hoop. Not moving in for a possible rebound, not leaking out for a fast break, just standing there watching the ball.

If you can get his head inthe game you might have a good player though.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."
