Just thought this was a little interesting. With Lowry and Livingston long gone, who else is still out there? Mario Chalmers?
By the way, Bird said this at halftime of the fourth Summer League game in Orlando today.

I was thinking the same thing about Nelson and he has playoff and NBA finals experience.

Mario Chalmers? Jameer Nelson? Ummm, I'll take a pass. Nothing except trade options left.

I'd happily sign Chalmers.

Interesting. Larry could be thinking of making George Hill play the 2 as a back-up plan, and adding a starting point guard instead. Making both guards capable of handling the point guard duties like Lance and George Hill did.
We'd be short with Hill at the 2, so I would want someone bigger than Jameer Nelson, and someone younger perhaps. I am thinking of some guys that I think could be capable starters. And are cheaper than the others.
Jordan Crawford, Jerryd Bayless, and Ramon Sessions. But I like Crawford and Bayless more because they can score. Sessions is a really steady and serviceable point guard though.

I don't like Chalmers at all. No offense but he plays out of his mind on the important games.

if we go that direction, I want someone who can stay in front of Teague.

The only pg out there who defends the position as well as George Hill that I can think of is Kirk Hinrich, maybe Mario Chalmers. If we are looking at another pg I say look for someone who's capable of running the offense better. In that case I think you are talking about Jameer Nelson or Luke Ridnour.

Joe Ragland.
Runs the offense.
Creates open shots for others
Big game/clutch player
The emotional leader the Pacers need
Makes his defender work.
Also an elite level shooting talent (43% 3pt shooter - 626 3pt fga/ 267 3pt fgm)
Low risk, high reward
24 years old

He was a shooter only (kind of a defender) after coming out of Wichita State and an extremely poor playmaker and point guard. Had he completely flipped the page and become massively better since going undrafted?

I must admit im not a fan of Chalmers. Im hoping for a guy that can be a threat offensively other than when he's open for three. I dont know how I feel about Jordan Crawford or Ramon Sessions. Im just hoping for someone who can handle the ball with confidence; shoot it with confidence; and is a reliable option to make the offense run better. And most importantly not a liability on defense. I do understand that Nelson is a smaller guy but im not sure that anyone else available fits all these descriptors.

I think 10+ teams are looking for the same thing, and that guys that match those descriptions are $10+ million kind of guys.

I agree but Phoenix did just sign I. Thomas who fits most of the above. But he too is a smaller guy. I think Jameer could be had for 5 mil a year. 3 years for 15m would be very reasonable for a guy with his resume.

Thomas is an extreme liability on defense, though, and that, with his size, is probably why he only got $6.5m If he were 3 inches taller and not a liability on defense, he'd be $10+m, easy.
Jameer is not nearly those things anymore. If he was, Orlando wouldn't have waived him. They would have had a market when they were trying to trade him. At this point, he's Jamaal Tinsley, with a better mind. Awful shooter (only salvaged by being a decent 3 pt shooter), can't stay nearly healthy enough, and definitely lost a couple steps on defense. He can put the ball where it needs to be, but he's a severe liability on defense.
Also, we don't have $5m a year. We have about $3-4m, tops this year, barring other big changes. I'd waive Scola in an instant to keep Lance. Probably not to sign Jameer Nelson to a 3 year deal.

No way to sign either of them, unless Nelson takes a vet minimum deal. We're capped out and have used our exceptions.

I think Phoenix could end up being a possible trade partner for teams looking for point guards. They have Bledsoe; Dragic; and Thomas. They are forcing Tyler Ennis who might already be very good to the D-League. Indy should call about Ennis to check the availability. Probably wouldnt have to sell the ranch to get him now. And he's on a rookie deal. Maybe one 1st; and a couple 2nds.

I'd definetly do Sloan and #1 for Ennis.
