DAMMIT

How on earth do we let him leave for a 3/27 deal with a third year team option? WHAT? We offered what, 5/44? Make it 5/45 and it's the same amount per year! Give him a player option and it's a way better deal!!!!

This is insane, how on earth did this happen.

Plan B is.... CJ Miles.... ****

Plan B : Give Turner a call? I think that's our best option at this point, even if we will have the slowest backcourt in the league.

I heard on Mike & Mike that the Pacers were offering less per year if they were going to lower the years on the contract.

ESPN is saying if Parsons was matched by Houston, Dallas was offering him 2/20 and he was going to go there.

What a joke. We could have offered 3/27 if we waived Scola.

Is he a RFA?

Surely, it is reasonable for management to match it.

No he is not. Turner is not, either.

Solomon Hill better be ready. He's gonna have serious minutes this season now.

Makes me wonder if this a case where the player was disappointed by the offer to the point where another team would have the advantage. Based on what he signed for we had his market value pretty well pegged. To some degree Pacers were victimized by being the one to bear the bad news to player and agent.

The 5 year 44 deal had him beginning at 7m in year one is what I read somewhere. I knew Indy would lose him. Bird probably insulted him; by saying that he has a fair offer for him and wont go over it; knowing Indy bent over for Hill in negotiations; bent over for Paul and Roy in negotiations; and negotiated/paid West a bigger contract as well. But when it came to him; no opportunity to negotiate? He was worth 10 per easily and just accepted 9. I dont get Bird's logic on this but he dropped the ball big time with this decision. And he had weeks to fix the offer. On the flipside, Im happy for Lance. He is no longer with his teammates and front office that labels him "bad lance".

But it took the last 3 years of our "backloaded" deal to make up what Charlotte could offer in the 1st 2 years.

Ultimately, I'm ecstatic that a GM actually stick to his budget, or once. I'm just saddened that it was us with Lance, that had to break that barrier. It may suck this year, but let's see what we can do over the next year or two of trades, drafts, and signings.

I'd certainly talk to Turner although at a pay cut. we have a Plan B thread though so let's not get talking about the same thing in two places.

hmm. that's the mystery to me. I would have gladly given him a two year deal saying prove yourself and we'll talk again when West and Hibbert's deals have expired. don't know why we'd go lower on a short deal. feels like Hornets knew exactly how many dollars would put us into the luxury tax and went just high enough to make it impossible for us to equal without paying tax or dumping someone we wanted to keep.

the shorter deal is good for Lance barring injury. it gives him time to show maturity and demand an even better deal next time which would eclipse what we were offering in the later years.

What a crap offseason for us. This puts us as the 2nd biggest loser behind Houston. I'll be shocked if we even have HC advantage this year. At least we'll have a better pick unless Bird trades it for a washed up Euro again.

There's a chance that the teams are talking behind the scenes about a s+t. If Charlotte is looking at one more target and they want to preserve cap space there could be an opportunity to get Gerald Henderson back in trade. If the reports are correct, Lance's year one salary is exactly 150% of Henderson's current number.

Anyone like that? I like Henderson, except for his long range shooting. He'd be a 3rd or 4th option in the starting lineup, but wouldn't help spread the floor much.
I think I just talked myself out of this being a good idea... Carry on!

At any rate, there are s+t opportunities with Turner as well. I think that the most he would get is the mid-level, which could conceivably by done, eh? But then you're looking at another guy that doesn't shoot well from outside so back to Henderson...

This is getting too difficult for my feeble mind.

Oh well, you win some and you lose some. From the beginning Lance was the most selfish player ever to wear a Pacers jersey. From the choke sign as a bench scrub to all the selfish moments thereafter, lance has always been about Lance first and foremost.

Paul George was not totally supportive of the idea of bringing Lance back, I'll take him at his word.

So who is our starting SG now? CJ Miles? Or does Watson get the start and move Hill over to SG?
