Knicks rec's: Hibbert & Scola. Indy rec's: Bargnani, Calderón, & Dalembert.
I like this deal for both teams
Pacers get Bargnani's expiring contract, Calderón to start with Hill they can switch off offensively & defensively as pg & sg, they get Dalembert to make up for the defense & shot blocking they lose with Hibbert.
Knicks do the deal the get big time rim protector in Hibbert & solid backup pf Scola
Indy starting 5 with George injured would be:
Sf: Copeland or Miles, Pf: West, C: Bargnani, Pg: Calderón, Sg: Hill.
Knicks New starting 5 taking into consideration that a traditional Pg is not needed:
Sf: Melo, Pf: Amare, C: Hibbert, Pg: Shumpert, Sg: JR.

As was stated on the trade forum, it's clearly a bad deal for Indy it's neither a rebuilding deal, as there are no rebuilding pieces coming to Indy, nor a win now deal as it returns lesser win now pieces for our better win now pieces.

There's just not much of a matchup for a deal between NY and Indy at this point.

Even if we did like Calderon, we could really only offer up something like Scola + Mahinmi for Calderon/Acy. You could waive Scola and the resulting cap savings would also save another $8-ish million in repeater tax this year.

Then, next offseason you have your backup/spot starter center minutes locked up in Mahinmi and you have an extra $3m in cap space to spend next Summer.

Clearly not a great offer, but it's about all we can do. Maybe a 2nd here or there, but that's about it. Clearly not a great offer for you either, unless you value expirings a ton.

I just really don't think there's a team out there willing to give us a player anywhere near Hibbert in return for him.

Plenty of reasons why I wouldnt even consider a deal with the knicks; And this deal is just a bad deal for any reason. If Indy wanted to dump salary they could do better than that.

No I wouldn't do that, we need Ian at the back up Center spot. If I'm taking Calderon we could offer CJ Watson, although I don't want to trade any of our CJ's that makes more sense. Scola and CJ for Calderon. The cut Scola and save a ton of money. I'd like to get a #1 in the deal as well if we're saving them $8-9 million. But I know they don't have some of their picks down the road so maybe a 2nd or something.

Theoretically, yeah, we'd like to keep Mahinmi, but moving his future salary helps offset the cost of Calderon's future salary, and we take a chance on Allen and Whittington to play some backup 5 minutes.

Otherwise, I was thinking to keep Watson, and start Calderon and Hill together, now that Lance is gone. Watson would still chew up backup PG minutes.

Yeah I kinda ran that around in my head, I don't like losing CJ but my idea was to start Calderon and Stuckey and bring George Hill off the bench as the primary back up at both guard spots. The 3 guard rotation would take the pressue of Hill and give a boost to the 2nd unit. I'd rather send Copeland in the deal and use Allen more at PF again keeping Ian and CJ if the Knicks would do that. Again if they are saving $8 million or more I'd think we could get a 2nd or even 2 considering they have no #1's to give.

IDK I'm ok with going into the season as we are I'm happy to have gotten CJ Fair hope he makes the team, I'd say the weak link is Whittington, park him in the DLeague and hope we can get him back next season.

Possibly, but I was just of the assumption that since Calderon still has value as a player, and his new contract isn't horrendous anymore, he'd be worth something useful like Mahinmi or Scola and some expiring, without having to pay 2nds to dump.

Yup. I think that Whittington is not guaranteed to make the roster, and that the $25k guarantee was merely meant to garner goodwill and maybe some sense of loyalty, and get him parked in Ft. Wayne after he's cut in training camp.

I get the sense the Knicks value Calderon more than expiring contracts but, I suppose that could change if they determine that they aren't competitive sometime before the trade deadline. I'd be fine with a Calderon/Hill backcourt and if it took Mahamni to get him that would be fine too.

I've seen some bad trade ideas presented to us, but this one.........whew.
