Is it possible for an NBA and a Euro team to work out a deal? Say something like Real Madrid reimburses Indiana for the guaranteed portion his 2014-2015 salary and the Pacers agree to release him for this season? A move like that would clear a roster spot and possibly fund an acquisition like Zoran Dragic? I would think Indiana would accommodate something like this if Luis wanted to move to Europe.

They could pay a buyout, I'm sure, but there's probably a limit in the CBA. Either way, the cap hit for us would be the same $1.9m after waiving Scola, and there's no one really out there to use the George DPE on.

It would clear a roster spot, but Scola is much better than anything we'd replace him with.

You are probably right that we won't find a better replacement....for this year. Zoran Dragic is intriguing though and if you concede this year is being played so that future years can be better a young player makes a lot more sense than Scola, who most likely won't be back after this year.

Possibly, but that's more in the idea of "we might as well trade all he gets and completely rebuild" kind of thinking than it is let's shoot for the bottom end of the playoffs, while also checking out the pieces we have or like.

I'd say Zoran would be here to compete with a Sloan moreso than take a Scola roster spot, but it's possible. I would think we'd look to trade Scola in that kind of spot, though. One would have to think an NBA team would want him and he may have played his value up in the Fiba World Cup.

I threw Scola into the mix of signing Dragic based more on the money aspects of the situation. I think I read somewhere Dragic has an 800k buyout and I wonder if a minimum level salary is enough to attract him? Moving Scola seemed more likely to create the money savings needed to accomodate a Dragic signing than cutting Sloan.

I guess it depends on just how high the Pacers are on Dragic.

Seems like the buyout contribution would be the same both ways, yes? I think that the max for an NBA team to pay on a Euro player's buyout is $500K. That's probably the amount the Pacers would receive.

Any other thoughts on price?

Normal way these deals work is that the player takes a very cheap buyout ,saving the NBA team money and cap hit.
