The Pacers an the Knicks discussed trading Chris Copeland for JR Smith. I'm not to terribly sure what to think about that if it would be good or bad.

I don't know how we could take on the extra 3 mil or so difference. I'd prefer just to let Cope expire either way.

It'd be interesting to see Smith as a first (ish) option, though I would want it to be on another team.

I assume the pacers we're going to put more in then just cope.

I see this as a Knick offer we snap declined.

Would have to be Scola. So I guess we'd take Larkin back as well? I'd do it if it was Shump or Early, but Larkin isn't enough to take on Smith's deal.

I wouldn't mind shumpert I think he would fit in the system pretty well being a pretty solid defender an a guy who can knock some shot down.

I'm not so sure it was the Knicks that triggered it. It is pretty obvious that without PG (and Lance) we are short of a credible scoring threat from the back court.

Having said that, I am fairly sure it was just a roll of the dice to see what it would take. It is interesting if that is the case because it would mean Larry is looking for something to spice things up.

I'm going to say this. By the end of the year their is going to be at least one of two new pacers. Larry isn't dumb he know this team is going to be very bad. It's not gonna surprise me if he makes a big trade

Nope, no thanks.

Would much rather have Cope at this point.

Berman's pretty much a shill for the Knicks management at the NYP. I see it as pretty much a false report that he was fed from someone to simply let the league know that the Knicks are interested in moving JR, and that they'd probably still have interest in Copeland.

right, the NY papers have a history of throwing out a lot of stuff and hoping something sticks every once in a while.

Yup. Donnie Walsh used to use Peter Vescey as the same kind of thing. He'd get his own wishes and leaks into the public by feeding it to Peter, back before the internet when the Indy Star or Indy News were not viable national papers.

Considering Scola's contract is only $1.9 million guaranteed I would bet we make a deal with on of the teams that's over the Tax line moving scola to them. Tax payers right now are Brooklyn, NYK, Boston and the Clips. How about Schola and Sloan to the Clips for Jamal Crawford? That gets us a scorer and they can release Scola and get under the tax line. That deal would be after Watson, Hill and West are back

Can't imagine the Clippers would say "we're not going to compete for a championship this year, and sell off some important pieces". Also, can't see Lionel Hollins in Brooklyn accepting the same. The Knicks? Sure, maybe. But what are they willing to pay?

Also, Boston is further from the tax than we are. They're safe. Bogans deal was non-guaranteed, and they only swapped him for $100k guaranteed and a pick or something. They got well under the tax.

Don't hate me, I am just thinking out loud here about a deal possibility.

NYK: Bargnani (expiring)/JR Smith (1yr)

IND: Roy (1Yr) and Scola (expiring)

the Knicks would be able to upgrade their C and the Pacers could start their tank whilst bringing in a reasonable SG for next year when PG gets back.

That's pretty awful. What's the reason for Indy? Keep in mind, JR Smith is certifiably crazy, on the court. Worse than Lance. Just got suspended for kneeing a player in the groin. I'd want SOMETHING for trading Roy for Bargs. JR, and his crazy deal ain't it. Shumpert. Hardaway. Something.

Fairly sure it would work with either of those two mentioned as well.

I am still of the opinion that we need more scoring and JR could provide it, despite being a nutbag, but opinions differ of course!

Well yeah if the clipps are in contention but considering the injury history of CP and Griffin they may or may not be. I saw a story where Rivers said the Warriors would run them out of the gym in a playoff series. If they are playing very poorly they might do something like that in Late Jan.

I don't think I want JR Smith on my team in any event.

As for boston last time I looked at the ESPN trade machine they had them over the tax line now they are showing them under it. So I was working with outdated info.

If we continue to play badly and have injury issues I could see a deal moving hibbert due to the fact that he'll likely opt out, that way we could get something out of him. A number of contending teams would suddenly become a lot better with Roy swatting shots and clogging up the middle.

We're just gonna have to wait and see.
