Mozgov to the Cavs

Post#1 » by Jermainevent » Wed Jan 7, 2015 9:15 pm

The Nuggets were able to net two 1st round draft picks in the deal, granted both are heavily protected it does make you wonder what kind of value Roy has to the rest of the league. I know it's incredibly unlikely that we pull the trigger on a deal involving Roy, but interesting to speculate considering the premium placed on rim protectors.

Good question. Roy is clearly the bigger impact defensively on the game. He can almost essentially change the way an opposing team plays offense completely. However, he's also owed a ton of money this year and next, and has an opt out this summer, so his contract status is an issue. Also, his annual "month long slumps" raise serious questions about the mental part of his game. All while Mozgov is a pretty straight forward player, and has this year and next under contract at under $5m per year.

Ultimately, I had floated the idea of a Haywood/Memphis 1st/OKC 1st/2018 Cleveland 1st for Hibbert this summer on the trade forum a few minutes before this deal happened. So I guess I view Mozgov as relatively equally valued to Hibbert, all things considered.

Wow I think the Cavs did super well. Mozgov is having a nice season and will be a good big man presence for the Cavs

I wonder if the Magic would have any interest, they have a lot of good, young pieces who would fit well up here. If there were someway we could grab Vucevic and Oladipo that would be my dream scenario.

I doubt we could bet either Vucevic or Dipo for anything other than Paul George. Let alone both.

Sadly you're right Scoot, I think finding a trading partner for Hibbert would be incredibly difficult. Maybe the Blazers for Lopez and McCollum, but even then the asking price might be too high. If Hibbert has a couple of good weeks maybe we can sell high.

A lot of that is the desperation of the cavs. Right now they will do anything to get a win
