Stanko Barac to tryout for Pacers

He'll allegedly tryout for the Pacers at the June minicamp, and has no promise of being signed. He is 28, and has had a very up and down European career.

Judging by the fact that he's willing to just tryout, and isn't being given a spot, I'd think it's 50/50 at best if he makes the team. At least we'll essentially know by the end of this summer if he'll ever make it over.

Maybe as a third big? He's gotten wider and more physical over the years but a bit slower now. I'd prefer Whittington.

Mantas Kalnietis could be interesting as a backup PG for the Pacers. His playmaking is pretty good. Nets were pretty high on him last year after he tried out for them before the Summer League. But he was still under contract with his euro club then.

Boy, as bad as a shooter as Kalnietis has been over his career, I can't imagine him making the NBA at age 29 (when next season starts). Really hard to hide a bad shooter (awful euro 3 pt shooter and very poor fg%) in the NBA right now, especially as a combo guard.

Really weird to see some of these Euros come over for pure tryouts for minicamps, and not have deals set up or any other safety net. Seems odd, as opposed to the last decade.

I would also think that Bird's bitter taste from the Jasikevicius debacle would maybe sour him on another older Lithuanian guard.

But, a tryout for a minimum salary is fine for anybody. We'll see what they got.

I think he'd be an option if we trade Hibbert. He's essentially be a role playing huge center to throw in for a few minutes a night, while Ian and whomever would play more of the rotation at 5. Whittington's viewed as a stretch 4 by Bird and TPTB. Think more along the lines of Kyrylo Fesenko.

Kalnietis already has a deal with Zalgiris in place if his Pacers tryout stint fails, so hes all set. I personally do not think he is NBA material at all, third string at best, but thats a low bar. Still interested to see how he does.

Ok.

He's trying out for a spot on the summer league, to try out for a spot in training camp, to then try out for the squad. Expectations are REAAAAAAAAAALY low right now.

He's trying out June 13-18th at our summer mini camp. If all goes well, he's hoping to be signed here in the NBA. We'll see what happens. Even if it's not here in Indy, maybe he shows enough to get someone interested in him?
