Pretty surprising here , didn't even think he would even consider opting out but this would change a lot of things now. I know he could easily resign with us, but you never know. Things just got a whole lot interesting. Bird could do little bit of everything now.

He could be coming back at a reduced rate in order to add another piece.

I thought about that too. I hope he does come back at a lower price

I doubt it. I would think he's looking at a last run for a ring.

so pretty much cause I'm sure hibbert will follow west an opt out we are gonna be a mediocre team for the next couple seasons unless we get a good free agent an that's unlikely to happen..

That's what I'm thinking. I guess he's retiring soon and doesn't believe Indiana's window is open.

It's not that bad. We're in the East with Paul George and I'm sure he'll get pissed off enough to lead us to the 8th seed.

Why not? Why so defeatist? Cap space now, and a lottery pick to these guys wouldn't be so bad. Still a playoff team, with even more cap space next year?

I'm not so defeatist to close down the franchise.

How does this affect us cap wise?

I can't see us making a huge blockbuster signing. It doesn't fit our MO.

it's all about trying to keep Paul George happy now. He's not gonna wanna just be a playoff team for the next 2 years he's gonna want to win a ring an if they don't get a big free agent this year or next the guy is gonna leave an join another superstar. That's just how the NBA work now days. We lost the glue guy to the team.

We were going to lose him anyway after this year. Keeping David West wouldn't have affected Paul George's thinking in 3 or 4 more years.

My guess is that he will end up on a contender regardless of his role.

We could theoretically max out at $10m in cap space.

Here is the star story

http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nba/pacers/2015/06/24/indiana-pacers-david-west-opt-out-free-agent-contract-roy-hibbert/29227655/

I find it surprising given how much the cap is going up in a year. he could play out this last year and sign a better contract next summer than this summer - of course, assuming age doesn't get to him.

do you suppose he did it before the draft so that the Pacers would prioritize bigs over guards? I won't be surprised if we go big at 11 and buy a second pick in the bottom five of the first and go big again.

I really want to keep Scola and Allen now. Luis runs effectively with his array of unconventional layups.
