I don't get this. I know you guys have money to spend, but Rudez >= Bud and he's cheaper. Not a fan of Budinger at all.

I agree. Rudez is MUCH cheaper, and signed to a longer, team friendly contract for barely above the minimum with a team option for next year. Rudez is the better shooter thus far, while Budinger is a MUCH better rebounder, more careful with the ball, and still younger.
If they were paid the same, I'd get the flip. With Budinger owed $4m more this year? I don't get it. Especially for the minimal role each would fill, anyway.

Don't like it, seems like a panicky move.

He played some small-ball 4 last year for stretches and played well. Was around the time his shot came back.

Isn't Bud a free agent after this year? Maybe Larry is taking a flier on Chase/clearing cap space for the spike next summer?

Also, according to my Wolves fan buddy, sounds like MN will waive Damo

I like it. We get a veteran guy on a one-year deal who might have a good bounceback year for us. He finished the year strong in Minnesota playing a stretch-4 sort of position, averaging like 16 ppg over that 20 game stretch. It's a bit different from the usual "guy puts up some empty stats on a bad team at the end of season" thing you sometimes see. Budinger is a veteran, he's a known commodity, and it was really his injury issues that turned him into an also-ran.
Worst case scenario, his injuries continue and he's useless to us. But it's not like Rudez was going to do much either, let's be honest. Budinger is a much better all-around player.
Best case scenario, he has a nice bounceback year and provides a couple nice things at the backup forward spots, and gives us even more flexibility in our lineups.
I like the moves we have made this offseason. Losing West and Hibbert was fine by me - they simply didn't have a future with the team. We got Ellis, Hill, and Budinger, who are all still in their 20s and bring a very different look for the team.
I like our draft pick.
This is a momentous year for the Pacers. It's our rebuild-on-the-fly. Great work by Bird and co.

They are going to wavie Damo, so any chance Pacers just pick him right back up? I really liked him coming off the bench last year and was pretty good in the 2nd half of the season.

Probably not. We didn't have to include him in the deal. We had the salary cap space to just absorb Budinger without having to send any other salary. We could've traded "the rights to Andrew Betts" instead. We sent him for a reason.

Well, it seems that George is going to start at PF, right?
Hill-Young
Ellis-Stuckey
Hill-Miles-Budinger
George-Mahinmi
Hill-Allen-Turner
You still need to sign another G at least, likely a PG.

We had a team option for next year (of only $1.2m, barely above the minimum salary cap hold) on Damo. This deal doesn't add affect our salary cap space in any way, essentially.
Taking a flier on Chase is probably more like it. He's the better player overall. And even though Damo is 3" taller, he's also 20lb's lighter, and infinitely less likely to ever play the 4 in stretch minutes than Budinger would be.
Essentially, Budinger is probably what I pictured for the "Teletovic signing role".

Start or not, he'll play some solid minutes at the 4.
Also, flip Mahinmi and Allen. Budinger will likely play some stretch 4, and we're eventually going to sign Shayne Whittington for the year. So, we're likely here:
Hill/vet PG/Young
Ellis/Stuckey
Miles/Hill/Budinger
George/Allen/Whittington
Mahinmi/Hill/Turner
I don't know that we necessarily need another guard/wing. Hill will play some 2, as will Miles. George will play some 3/4. Stuckey will play some 2/1. Allen will play some 4/5. A lot of flexibility.
I picture us signing a veteran backup PG, if only for locker room purposes (maybe a Ridnour type). Maybe also a veteran big man for locker room/emergency minutes. Think an Elton Brand/Kendrick Perkins type. Then, we'll bring a couple other guys to training camp to compete for roster spots like Mantas Kalnietis (who looked good in summer league), a veteran wing, etc.

I like the make up of the roster but you got a lot of 1on1 players, it is going to take either a hellacious up tempo game, or time, to make it work fluidly offensively.

I just returned from vacation, turned the computer on, and saw this on yahoo. I have a lot of posts to catch up on but i am not a fan of this. Bird has been after Budinger for a while though. That guy sure does fall in love with players.

More than likely. But I doubt we traded for chase to become 3rd string. I was expecting the acquisition of another wing. I like Chase. He is an all around player. He kinda fits the idea of bringing in an under the radar younger guy to grow with the team. If Bud can regain his form I expect for Solo to fall out of the regular rotation. My projected rotation.
Hill/FreeAgent/Stuckey or Young.
Ellis/Miles or Stuckey matchup based
Miles/Bud or Solo camp will determine
George/Turner or Allen/Bud
Hill/Turner/Allen/Ian
If no free agent point guard is brought in; I expect Young to be in the rotation right away. His summer league play has indicated that he may be ready right now.

Well yeah I was projecting the depth chart but the rotation will most likely be something like,
Hill-Stuckey
Ellis-Miles
Hill-Budinger
George-Mahinmi
Hill-Allen
plus the rookies.

no way they play mahinmi at power forward if Allen plays center. Switch those two around then put miles at small forward with solo hill out of rotation.
