I don't think Poythress reflects anything on anybody, except that he's being targeted for Ft. Wayne.
Keep in mind, now that we own the Mad Ants, and with the rule that a team that last cut a player can control his rights in the D-League (or rather, control where he's assigned), look for us to sign many players to something with $50k to $100k guaranteed as incentive to play for Ft. Wayne, and see if we can develop them or get an extended look at them. This is why we claimed Terran Petteway last year after training camp, and before the season (well, technically, he was on the roster for one day, so he got $6k), so that he would play for Ft. Wayne in the D-League.
As for Poythress himself, he's more of a 3 that can probably kind of play the 4 in the NBA, but since he's already had several knee injuries, he's very limited.

Bottom line to me is that we can make use of Evans better than Polythress.
I don't know that we can make use of Evans at all. Remember, he had a major shoulder surgery this summer and won't even be able to resume shooting, or basketball activity, until after training camp is over. I'm not saying he's a guaranteed cut, but if someone trying out for the team in camp acquits themselves, he's a pretty easy cut. Though, if no one acquits themselves, it's easy to keep him as the 15th guy.
