Trade idea Thad Young for Kenneth Faried

Post#1 » by 8305 » Thu Dec 29, 2016 3:49 pm

I've lost track of the games lost this season because we've simply been man handled on the boards. While I like Thad Young and he does address the issue of guarding the stretch 4, he is simply not enough of a physical presence to cover for Myles Turner's deficiencies as a rebounder. At least when considering the poor fit of Monta and Teague we have some options (Stuckey, Robinson, CJ). But we got nothing in the way of alternatives at the 4 that I can see. I'd be open to some other asset or combination of assets going out for Faried but outside of George, Myles Turner and Teague there are no other trade assets on this team.

It's nice to say we want to play faster, spread the floor etc. and build a team that does that (not sure we really have but that's the line from Larry). Unfortunately, we seem to have ignored the reality that rebounding remains a key component for basketball success. This deal gives Myles Turner some cover in this area of the game, something he badly needs.

It's really shoring up one weakness by further opening another. This team lacks shooting, and Thad isn't a rifleman, but he's over 40% on the season from three and teams have to respect him.

I agree. I've just come to believe that the lack of rebounding is this teams biggest problem. Myles Turner either needs to be moved back to the 4 with a more traditional center playing the 5 (which we don't have). Or, you've got to get a more physical guy playing next to him at the 4. This along with slowing tempo down and taking fewer 3's since we don't have an abundance of guys who can shoot.

I never liked bringing Thad Young here and thought Faried would be a better fit even in the summer. Energy and rebounding are two things this team lacks and Faried brings both. I am not a fan of every team thinking stretch. Honestly, I would take Faried, Jokic, or Nurik from Denver. Problem is everyone wants young players and picks.

They talked about playing Turner and Jefferson on the court together at the beginning of the season. I haven't seen this happen much at all though.

fwiw, Jefferson on the floor in general is a bad thing. Yeah, he's got that old man's post up game (that is about as dependable Roy Hibbert's). The bigger problem is he can't guard anyone. And when I say anyone I mean that literally. He provides absolutely no rim protection. I'm afraid if he and Myles were on the floor together we would be an even worse defensive team than we already are. All that said he's not in good enough shape to assume any more minutes than he gets as a backup.
