It's pretty scary how flawed the Pacers are. When they miss their mid jumpers or their defense looks lazy, they can literally get run out of any barn by any team on any given night.

I was bored tonight and spend some time on baskeball refrence -

-Elite FT shooting team (81.5%) good for second best in NBA
but
they attempt the 10th least amount of free throws then anyone.

-They are the 6th best 3PT shooting team in the nba at 37%
but
they attempt the second least 3s per game, in the NBA.

They have only completed 107 dunks this season... fourth least in the NBA.

It's amazing they have as many wins as they have, to be honest.

Plus those are just offensive numbers. Their real problems are on defense.

This! I miss the days when the Pacers were considered a defensive minded team...

I will also add that the whole GR3 fascination on here has hopefully died. Look I like GR3 and I do think he can be a nice piece (especially given his contract). He has room to grow and needs to do so from the bench. But, he is not currently and do not think he will ever be an NBA starter. I think even given all of our short comings we are a solid 3 & D guy in that spot away from being a pretty solid team. That is just a massive, massive hole at this time. Personnel wise I think our starting 2 guard and our bench PF are the downfalls at this point in time. That and PG hasn't been playing at a PG level to hide some of our holes.

Dan Burke is still there to coach the defense, but he has nobody to work with it seems.

I think that is part true. I think Frank got the guys to really buy in and believe on the defensive end. For example, last night in the 4th quarter PG played on defense how he played in years past. Made it really tough on Mello to score. I thought the rest of the team fed off that. It wasn't enough, but had that effort been there in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd quarter....

I find our brand of basketball to be painful and awkward to watch. The talent is there, I just can't seem to see an identity when we play, even when we're winning, I feel like the Pacers are just...there. I don't think Nate McMillan is a good coach, it often feels like we don't even have one.

would you start a healthy Stuckey at the two? when GRIII rebounds, he fits nicely as a 5th option. when he doesn't, we're in trouble, but I have trouble identifying a better starter on the current roster.

I like Stuckey and Miles over him.

i think putting another scoring guard that needs the ball in his hands next to Teague is not a good idea.

Maybe miles but he is not good enough defensively.

As of now, grIII seems like the best choice.

I think our biggest need right now is an upgrade at the four spot. Young is a good player but has his limits.

We need a good defensive four with toughness that can bang a little with the other bigs because turner is too thin and is not a great rebounder.

I'm kind of disappointed because I was clearly hoping a better season.

Disagree on all accounts but that is what this board is for. I'm not a huge Thad fan but our 2 spot is the most in need of help IMO. I understand your point about not having someone next to Teague that needs the ball. However, it would be helpful to have someone that the other team has to guard. People sag off GR3 so much it really clogs things up for Teague and PG. Plus GR3 gets a rap for being a great defensive player. IMO he is not. Gets lost a lot.

Agree on it not being a guy that needs the ball. But it needs to be someone that can score.

Ideally, we need a backup 4 though that is good enough to take over from Young when he struggles with bigger players.
So in a way, that backup 4 has to have some skills to start games, wouldn't you agree?

I mean, with CJ Miles as starter now, the Pacers have 3 deadly weapons to hit 3s now, but only 1 good rebounder, Teague
