Pacers interested in Serge Ibaka
Presumably, that hypothetical would revolve around Thad (even though that wouldn't solve Orlando's front-court logjam, unless Vucevic got traded too) and a guard like Ellis.
Still though. Thoughts on the rumor? Between the fact that he's a free agent and could be had for cheap, not much may have to be sent back in return

I'd be a big fan of this! Would give the Pacers some defensive and rebounding help that they desperately need.

Where did you see this posted as a rumor? I would rather have Noels from Philly or Nurkic from Denver because I don't think Myles Turner is a C and will eventually need help there and Al Jefferson is not a rotation player in the playoffs.

I think Myles is a center. He would struggle to guard a lot of stretch 4s in today's game.

Monta Ellis is an experienced wing and as ex-coach of him, Frank never thought he was bad enough to bench him, not even for a single game, so without the slightest doubt we can say he must like him a lot.
Get it done Larry, make Frank happy again

I would like to keep Thad Young personally. Ibaka for Ellis straight up would be nice, but Orlando will ask for more than that. What if we add Stuckey, Big Al, Seraphin or even CJ Miles?

Thad Young would be perfect from the bench. What we need is a defensive big like Noel, that allows Turner the play the 4 with Noel on the floor and play the 5 with Young on it.

Noel would be perfect yeah, but I doubt the Sixers will trade him for anything we can offer.

It would probably take something involving a first rounder. What is concerning though is that Noel has an expiring contract and therefore might be here only for a few months. That's not worth giving up a lot.

Yeah that's the same thing as with Ibaka. Even if Noel or Ibaka would want to stay, we'd have to pay one of them and also Teague, because I think the Pacers will want to keep him. And then we still need to have enough money to offer PG a max contract in 2 years...Summer 2017 is going to be very interesting!

Re: Pacers interested in Serge Ibaka
Orlando has said they'd like to move a big man for a proven scorer. I wonder if Vogel considers some of our 2nd unit guards as proven scorers. I suspect Ibaka isn't their first choice trade piece but I'd take their center if we could get him for a reserve.
Philly seems to have discovered that Noel and Embid play well together which makes Okafor the piece most likely to be available.

Thad is too expensive to move to the bench. If we picked up a 4 like Ibaka I'm guessing Thad would be a part of the deal. Plus as I previously stated... Myles is a center. He struggles defending in space which is why he doesn't play the 4.

I would so love to see Ibaka on the Pacers. And if the trade moved Monta Ellis out? Even better for us as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Pacers interested in Serge Ibaka
So, Myles is a C just because he can't guard 4's? I understand they say you play the position you can guard but that shows how he is going to limit this team as a cornerstone piece. Porzingis is 7"2 or something and no-one questions him guarding 4's. Listen, Chris Bosh could play 5 because he played next to Lebron, unless we are getting Lebron we aren't winning anything with Myles at 5.
As for this idea, I am all for trading Monta, Stuckey, Brooks, Allen, Seraphin and 2nd rd picks. Whatever you can get for that.

They gave up Sabonis and Oladipo for Ibaka, I don't see any way we can get him for Ellis even if we kick in our #1 pick.

The league is changing. Him guarding 4s has nothing to do with his height. It's his quickness. Watch him guard when he gets pulled from the basket. Porzingis moves better than Myles does so he can guard some 4s. But to be honest Noah's minutes have been dwindling and they have been play Porzingis at the 5 and Melo at the 4. Like it or not it's the way the league is trending.

Re: Pacers interested in Serge Ibaka
Ibaka would be a nice addition to this team. I think Myles is fine playing the 5. But, an undersized 4 (Thad Young) playing next to Myles is a big problem on many nights. Long term it's something the Pacers need to address and a guy like Ibaka goes along way on that order.
Since he has some value Thad Young would be the logical guy to move. I can't imagine a Monta for Serge trade would in any way be acceptable to Orlando. Frank may have coached Monta last year but, I would think that backround would make him more likely than most to know better than to be trading for Ellis. Can someone tell me that last time Monta hit a shot?
Realistically I'd guess it would take Thad Young and our 2018 1st to get Ibaka. Guessing you would need to find a 3rd team to take Thad and have something to trade back that Orlando would value. A better option, keep the first and chase Serge in the free agent market?

Very, very well said. I think if we are going to chase someone like Serge in free agency we will have to find a way to move Thad's contract. I'm guessing Larry is looking to upgrade the 2 via free agency. Great point about Myles being at the 5 with an undersized 4. You have said what I have been saying but much better than I have.

Re: Pacers interested in Serge Ibaka
Ibaka is a stretch big like Thad Young, like I said the team would be better off with Noels, Nurkic or even Taj Gibson. We need someone who defends and rebounds. Ibaka helps protect the rim but he is not really a rebounder.
