Re: Fort Wayne Ants Acquire Tyler Hansbrough
Hansbrough's TR% was 14.2 last season, and 14.4 with the Raptors the season before that. Toronto was almost 9 points per 36 minutes better with Hansbrough on the court that season. With the Raptors, Hansbrough had a TS% of 59.7, offensive rating of 112.1 (10th in the NBA among players with at least 40 games), and net rating of 10.5 (15th in the NBA). Then he got sidelined when Steve Clifford parked him on the bench in Charlotte last year.
Perhaps Larry Bird wants to see what he can do before offering a contract going into the playoffs. Technically, he is eligible to sign with any team until the end of the regular season on April 12.

Re: Fort Wayne Ants Acquire Tyler Hansbrough
You mean our wasted 2009 draft pick?
We should have taken Teague we needed a poing guard, but we took that donkey, then 2 yrs later we trade the 15th pick for Hill and that was the kahwi Leonard deal.
One thing leads to the other.

Agree on the Hansboro pick. The Hill and Kahwi deal is revisionist history. Everyone thought it was a great deal at the time. Kahwi at the time was a defensive specialist coming out of San Diego State. You can't really play that game because it's not realistic. Every team passed on Draymond, most teams passed twice on Isaiah Thomas, etc.

Yeah we needed a point guard when we made that deal for Hill but if we would have addressed the pg spot in the 2009 draft and took home town kid Teague then we would not have needed to make the move for Hill. As for Draymond Green I couldn't believe he was not picked in the 1st round. IT was a 5'9'' rookie believed to be too small to play even 3 yrs later. He signed for cheap when the Suns got him then traded him same yr.

Plus even if we had addressed the Pg position in the 2009 draft there is nothing to indicate we would have taken Kahwi with the #15 pick. We had taken PG the year before and they were very similar players coming out of college. That is why I hate the bashing of trading the Kawhi pick. It would not have made sense at the time to take him.

It turns out that Bird was instrumental in the signing:
"Hansbrough’s relationship with Pacers president Larry Bird was certainly a factor in being able to get him to Fort Wayne, which currently doesn’t have any NBA-contracted players on the roster, lost Bentil on Friday and then Stone on Monday."

He's still gotta be better than Al Jeff.

I dont see a fit. Hell I was happy when he wasnt retained in free agency the first time. Mc Bob was better than him. I would rather keep Christmas in the rotation. He plays hard and has more upside.

Re: Fort Wayne Ants Acquire Tyler Hansbrough
After three games, Hansbrough is leading Fort Wayne in +/- at 9.7 and rebounds per game at 9.3. His net rating is 12.3, second on the team. It's only three games, but the Pacers' vice president of basketball operations, Peter Dinwiddie, was there for the first one last week. If the Pacers need rebounding and defense, they are looking in the right place.
Tyler played almost the entire game last night, and 37 minutes last Saturday. He said after the first outing that he felt rusty and his touch was not there, which shows in the FG%, missing 6 of 9 last night. Expect the shooting to improve, both touch and timing, as he rounds into form.

I really have a soft spot for Hansbrough, but I'd much rather see Christmas get minutes than to sign him.

If you look at the stats, two of the worst players on the team are Lavoy Allen and Kevin Seraphim, at -1.8 and -2.9, with net ratings of -6.3 and -13.0. Seraphim can rebound and hit the basket, all right, but his defensive rating is 111.9. That's unbelievably bad for a big, placing him 212th out of all forwards in the NBA. Lavoy Allen ranks 189th in defensive rating, a lot worse than he did two seasons ago.
So the question is, who could best help the Pacers get to the playoffs and win?

I agree, and I would probably honestly rather see what a 25 year old Rakeem Christmas can bring to the table off the bench over a 31 year old Hansbrough, but I do recall reading somewhere that the last two teams Hansbrough played for tended to be better with him on the floor than off. That's not nothing.
