2017 Offseason Free Agent Discussion

I believe that Free Agency, Draft, and Trades should all be discussed around the same time but they are obviously different transactions. For example, most GM's and such are probably thinking why should I entertain your trade offer for Bismack Biyombo when I could draft Bam Adebyo, mold him, while paying him less.
Here is a FA list to the best of my knowledge. Feel free to add to the list.
http://www.nba.com/freeagents/2017/I think Anthony Toliver recently was waived.

Nick Young: I like his scoring but he is 32. I would rather add someone younger to our core.
Alan Williams: May be the type of bruiser rebounder we need. The only problem is he is restricted.
Dion Waiters: He is worth a mention because of youth and explosive ability but I would not want him as my starting SG. Too many issues.
Mo Speights: He is interesting. He is a stretch big that you guys like but we already have two starting stretch bigs
Derrick Rose: I am sure he would love to play here and turn into the old Rose and you guys would love to get rid of old average
Teague.
Willie Reed: Like Alan Williams he could help us with energy, toughness, and on the boards.
JJ Redick: I don't like his age for us. We need a shooter but I would rather get one another way than to spend free agent dollars.
Zach Randolph: He has made a career and great name for himself with Memphis. I don't see why he would leave but if he were then I would take him in a minute. He would be coming off the bench but the best big we have.
Mason Plumlee: I like him as a rim runner and rebounder. He would help us.
Zaza Pachulia: Zaza is old to me, but he really doesn't have much injury history and has always rebounded. A good 3rd or 4th big for us.
Just a discussion. The bolded are my favorite from this first list.

How much would you want to offer Alan Williams?

Good question, I think 7 to 8 per year is enough. Lavoy Allen has a team option, I would either use that or put him in a trade where we shade 3.5 million in salary or more. I think Alan is a good ugrade to Lavoy.

I think Suns would match that.

Continuing on
Nerlens Noel: We dont have the funds to get him but I think he is the perfect compliment to Myles Turner.
Nene: Nene is old but he is still fairly productive. I think he will be coming off injury. I would pass
.
Shabazz Muhummad: He is a scorer off the bench. Better suited for 3. A guy like Paul George may allow him to play a bigger role. He is definitely better than GR, thus he would be upgrade.
Greg Monroe: I like Monroe. He rebounds and scores. He was able to be effective in the playoffs. Don't think we can pay him without a salary dump.
Paul Millsap: As much as I like Sap, he isn't a 20 point scorer. Time we lose out, they will say this team needs another 20 point scorer.
Javale McGee: I don't think he would be as effective with anyone other than the Warriors, or maybe he has found his niche.
Kyle Lowry: Is Lowry the answer. I say no because of injury history and age.
Alex Len: Not sure he is perfect for Myles but he does rebound well. His youth makes him worth it.
Ersan Illyasova: He is a productive player. We need more of them and he may fit our budget. He is a bit of a tweener but I dont think he hurts you defensively.
George HILL: George Hill is getting old and he is gonna want a big payday. He is also always injured.
The bolded are my favorites discuss.

$10M per max but I am sure he will get 12-16 easy look at what Mozgov got.

I want a backup 4 although I wouldn't complain if we could get a starting like Milsap or Ibaka without paying tax. Ilyosova is probably more realistic. I'd like to think there are others buried on rosters somewhere who I've never heard of.

Gordon Hayward: If he wants to play here we should make a way. He is as close as we will get to what we need.
Tim Hardaway Jr: I like him but his contract year was much better than his others. He is better than anything we have at SG.
Blake Griffin: Blake was injury prone before entering the NBA.
JaMychal Green: He is better than any backup big we have and could be a decent starter when Thad is gone.
Rudy Gay: Unfortunately Gay is as intriguing as any SF out there not named Hayward but he is coming off an injury and aging and has always been an underachiever to some but the guy has had multiple seasons where he averaged over 20 pts per, we need that.
Pau Gasol: He is old but he is still productive.
Danilo Gallinari: He would be an upgrade at SF for a few years, but he is injured too often for me. You can't have that with a playoff team.
Cristiano Felicio: I think he is a good big being underused, Chicago has several.
Tyreke Evans: He is just too injured for me.
Kevin Durant: Not going to happen.
The bolded are the ones I like most. Discuss.

I want to say Gordon Hayward...
But it feels like the Pacers need to take a year and decide what they have and who they are.
Retool the organization. Decide an identity
Who are they building around and what identity will those players give the organization?
Reset and take some risk. No one is expecting anything:
Thomas Heurtel, Joe Ragland, and Nicolo Melli

Adding Gordon Hayward to play next to Paul George was always an intriguing idea, great to think about even if it wasn't ever that likely to happen. Now it seems that's off the table.
Rudy Gay is more likely the caliber of player that is realistic to pursue, but I'm not certain that's a better option than starting one of GR3 or Lance and seeing if they can make a jump

We need to try and take some chances on cheap young guys like we did with GRIII. A lot will also depend on how many, if any, draft picks we get for PG. May not have a lot of roster spots. I'd like to try and get any of the following on some cheap 2-3 year deals:
James Young
Christian Wood
Alex Len (no idea what his range will be or if PHO wants him back)
Cristiano Felicio
Ben Mclemore
I'm also somewhat interested in MCW. If we can make Lance work so well, maybe we could do the same for him?

Gordon Hayward and Jeff Teague
All other free agents are either not good enough to make a difference or are never going to the Pacers.
Thanks to George, it will be difficult to convince them though, so just add some youngsters I don't know, let the tank commanders do their job or add other veteran FAs who over the hill enough to come to Indiana. Which ones I really don't care.

I lost interest in FA's not knowing what we are doing with PG. Personally, I think Teague will be the first telling sign of what they are doing.

DONt want to sign anyone that doesn't fit a rebuild. I see very little reason to spend any money in free agency unless we find something that's just impossible to pass up.

I thought they already let u know they are not interested in a true rebuild.

Wouldn't it be fun to bring Hayward home spoiling Ainges plan.

If Hayward comes home, we can't trade PG to the Celtics, so maybe that's not the best idea...
But also, I don't believe we could even offer Hayward the max without renouncing ALL of our free agents and declining all team options for this year.

Joe Ragland
Career: 48%/41%/82% (over 5 professional seasons)
Excellent Shooter. Excellent in the pick and roll. Plays beautifully off the ball as well.
Defends. Rebounds. Tough. Competitive.
Great fit next to Lance
2011-2012 season at Wichita State was 1st in nation in true shooting percentage. (70%)
Ragland vs. Ntilinkina
October 2016
