What is going on with Gordon Hayward?

Early this morning I saw that Gordo was taking his time and sleeping on his decision for free agency.
Then suddenly a fantasy came over me, maybe a dream, that he was negotiating to come home to Indiana! Pacers sign an trade sending a resigned CJ Miles $10 mill and Thad Young $15 million and a 2019 top 15 protected #1 for Hayward.
Wouldn't that be a shocker. Not gonna happen but it's a nice dream.

Last night before I went to bed, I saw a lot of people speculate he was staying with Utah. This morning I kept seeing people say Miami. So you're right... what is going on with him?? Lol
If the reports of him telling front office he wanted to play with Ricky Rubio are true than it's a super douche move to go elsewhere. Not only did Utah trade for Rubio but flew him to San Diego where they were meeting with Hayward.

Looking at the Utah Jazz situation with Hayward signing with Boston I'm starting to think that was pretty classy act by Paul George on informing us his plans to leave in free agency and giving us time to make a trade and get something with value for him. The Utah Jazz lost the best free agents in the market because they were waiting Hayward's decision, signed Joe Ingles (who's a good friend of Hayward) with a huge deal and now they are screwed.

If he would have done it privately without the leaks it would have been one thing but the leaks destroyed his value and we got about 1/2 value for him.

I feel for him. I've had to make a few career decisions and moved around the state a few times over the past couple years. I'm nobody, and it's tough enough to make those kinds of decision without the media and the public being all up in your business. Hayward also has his family to worry about and his professional ties with his co-workers, his organization, and his coaches both past and present.
It's gotta be tough. LIterally a million dollar decision to make, you know.

Still was much better than create high hopes for him to stay and resign with us and then losing him for nothing.
I guess in today's world, nothing with that importance can be done 100% privately. Hayward's decision today is a very good example. This rumor of PG wanting to play for the Lakers comes from a couple of years ago, it is not from last season, all the teams would know that, and that's why you generally lose a trade when you trade your franchise player, because the other teams know that sooner ou later you'll have back against the wall and HAVE to make a trade. That's what happened to CP3, Jimmy Butler and Paul George in this offseason. They didn't want to stay in theirs respectives teams and I think we made the best deal of the three.
We don't know the whole story on Paul George, how that worked with the front office and all the talks. And I was pretty mad with PG, but it happens, there are no Reggie Millers or John Stocktons nowadays.

I think the NBA should address again making it more financially rewarding to stay with the team that drafted you. I know they did in the last CBA but it looks like it was not a big enough incentive. Maybe they need to let the drafting team offer the guy more money and even bigger raises.
If not at some point we're gonna have 4-5 super teams and everyone else will be minor leagues, we're almost there now.

They tried to do it with raises and an extra year but players are opting for short contracts gambling that the cap will keep going up and they'll stay healthy.

I for one am happier to get 1/2 value for Paul George than to let him leave for nothing.

No idea who this guy is, but he said it best.
IDK, I thought his column showed a lot of heart. I know that some nice words aren't gonna mean much to Jazz fans who just lost their best player, but he managed to express gratitude and how tough of a decision it was for him. Not all NBA players are about that. It's a league of egos, and I would have preferred to see him stay with Utah, but we've seen star players be much more selfish and show way less class. So I say good for him.
