Why?

"Just the youthfulness of everybody. Everybody comes with such a different mindset. Sometimes veterans come in and they've done it so many times. (These guys) are really looking forward to getting out there."

I'm extra glad to hear about this. I'm really excited about the group of guys we have on the team right now. We've had so much negative energy the last few years with the change of style/PG at the 4 talk, with the coaching change, with the roster turnover we've had, with the Paul George trade, etc. etc. And I'm pretty happy to put a lot of that behind us now. We had established a culture for awhile here of being a real hard working, blue collar type of team, and I kind of feel like we got away from that. That's the environment in which Paul George broke out, made Roy Hibbert a DPOY candidate, and turned us into a ECF kind of team. I'm hoping to shoot for that again. We won't be back in the ECF this year, I know lol, but let's surprise some people. I want this to be a team I love rooting for again.

Also a video of McMillan talking about Lance basically being our 6th man, which confirms what a lot of people had already been speculating, but it really does sound like we're gonna hand the keys to the 2nd unit over to Lance. I think that's the perfect role for him.

I know it's just an impression, but one of the only players you don't feel the energy coming out, is our highest paid player.
Listening to Victor Oladipo, he gives me the feeling he doesn't really want to become the best player he can be.
I got serious doubts he will show significant improvement.

That being said, Myles Turner keeps impressing me. How he embraces a leadership role, his arms and his energy and you are absolutely right, lot's of these players seem to come in with a chip on their shoulder. Oladipo just doesn't strike me as one of them.
Then again, I'm always worried when players start to get new hobbies. When you are making 84 million over the next 4 years, it's always tempting to slown down with the exercise efforts and to do more stuff that relaxes you, like making albums. As a basketball fan, I actually wish he wasn't such a good singer. Basketball should be like a religion that forbids you to have too much fun in other areas.

Googling his album, I understand a bit better why Oladipo looks so depressed. Him and Westbrook were closer than I thought, calling him the best player in the NBA and the guy who sings him to sleep. Westbrook was kind of his singing buddy. I sure hope Kevin Pritchard and his buddies did a better job this time with Oladipo and his background feelings, than they did with Paul George and his background feelings. Not to mention Monta Ellis and his lack of desire to play with energy. I hope they learned from their mistakes, but listening to Oladipo, it doesn't look good to me.

I enjoyed listening to everybody else though with CoJo and Leaf giving me better than great impressions. .
It's a mystery to me why guys so big, mumble so much and want to be so humble. CoJo, TJ, Turner talk with confidence and I'm very glad we have players like that on our team. As if saying you are good enough to start or get minutes, implies you have the wrong attitude or implies you will riot when the coach thinks otherwise.

Tried to imagine Oladipo in bed with his teddy bear and Westbrook sitting on the bedside, singing a lullaby for him. Now I'm sitting at work and giggling like an idiot

No more Ellis/George/Teague collective chemistry terribleness. Al Jefferson getting in shape, late as it is, setting a good example. Myles Turner ready to take on the leadership mantle at a SUPER young age. We are going to win less games this year, but I am hopeful this version of the Pacers isn't the chore that last season's was. Holy crap was last season terrible. Even when we won it felt like a loss.

I'm not a big guy on how guys sound on being energetic. I will judge that on the court. However, you should read Gregg Doyel's piece in the Star today. Maybe some of the energy/killer instinct you were looking for in Dipo.

I'll read it but I'm not very high on buying what others have to say about players. I prefer to form my own impressions.
Measurable facets like condition tests and McMillan saying Oladipo stood out there, that's something I will absorb, but I do hope he will show more energy on the court than talking to the media. As always I have some doubts though

I haven't read that piece either, but I really liked Oladipo's energy in the Kevin Pritchard press conference announcing the trade. How he plays is gonna end up mattering a whole lot more than anything of that though. There are a few responses in here I really like also.

This would surprise me. Historically, Dipo is known for being a guy with a great attitude and a great work ethic.

I agree if we can agree there are players with superb work ethic out there.

The Pacers had some of them in recent years, Turner, Hibbert, they both made big improvements while being on their rookie contracts. I admit, playing next to Westbrook-do-it-all, was a tough situation for his stats, but I don't think we can say Oladipo so far has improved his game a lot. He has taken some small steps, but he needs to do more/work harder to become a possible Allstar.

I think he is capable of it, but I don't get the impression he really really wants it. I do expect him to stay a very good player to help us compete for a playoffs spot for many years to come, while we can hopefully draft another possible Allstar to put next to Turner, but I doubt Oladipo will become that Allstar. That is all. Everything about him screams good attitude and hard worker, I just miss that little extra that makes a player a gamechanger. That extra you see when a player gets really upset when losing a game, or that extra you hear when he talks about playing basketball. I see passion in Oladipo's game, but not of the same level as PG or Turner's. Same when he talks. That's just one of my way's of trying to predict how good Oladipo can become. If I'm wrong, splendid for the Pacers

Yes, I was one of the few insisting Sabonis needed to be included in the PG trade. Everybody else wanted them picks. Silly boys, good thing I was able to convince the Kevmaster (Kevin Pritchard)

Pritchard has been pretty clear that players with some NBA tape are much less risky acquisitions than draft picks. I doubt this is a view that only came upon him this summer.

It isn't, but the majority wanted the picks, KP prefered Sabonis.

Because I had the Kevmasters back (to get Sabonis) and because he trusts me, he was confident enough to not follow the majority and get Sabonis. He usually follows the majority.
