Game Thread 10/9: Pacers vs. Pistons

Post#1 » by boomershadow » Mon Oct 9, 2017 4:30 pm

http://www.vigilantsports.com/2017/10/08/four-pacers-starters-to-sit-in-third-preseason-game/

Darren Collison will be the only starter to play Monday in Detroit (7:00 pm) for the Pacers’ third preseason game.

“I’m going to change my rotation,” coach Nate McMillan said after practice on Sunday. “I want to get Ike [Anigbogu] and Al [Jefferson] and some of other guys some minutes.”

Second-round pick Ike Anigbogu has not yet played in the preseason. He only recently began participating in full-court scrimmages, still nursing a tweaked right knee. He is expected to play and be on a minutes restriction.

Ok, that's kind of weird. There are only 4 preseason games; McMillan was quoted earlier saying he'd rather it be 6. These are brand new units we're putting out there, with 3 new starters and a revamped bench. Wouldn't he rather get the core guys more opportunities to mesh? I mean ok it's good to get a look at your end of benchers too, but to the point that your starters aren't playing at all?

But whatever, it's just preseason. Good for the young ones, and hope at least some of them get to step up.

Agree, don't get it at all. I'm happy to see Anigbogu get some minutes though.

Is that Quinn Buckner, or another person calling the game? Whoever it is... OH MY.

Edit: I may be listening to Detroit cast. Not sure, but they are TERRIBLE.

But we have cuts to make. This gives the bottom guys a chance to show their stuff in a real game.

Uthoff showed up at least statistically.

I wonder if the game is televised tomorrow?

I hope to be able to watch the game later somehow. I like to see why Ike couldn't grab a single rebound yikes

There is some competetion to get the 15th spot I think. Assuming Wilkins gets the 14th.

I don't mind it at all. If the talent and BBIQ is present, they will figure it out quickly enough.

Here's a full 9 minute highlight of the game in case you guys missed it.

Not exactly edifying... defense was optional in that game.

Of those guys fighting for a spot, maybe Wilkins has won one, but no one else IMO. I'd rather they keep the last roster spot free. Also I wouldn't mind if they cut Al Jeff and Joe Young loose. We've seen enough, I think.

Joe Young especially. He is a small point who was supposed to be a great scorer. Bird was high on him from the second round.
He needs to play in the D-League or over seas and see if he can develop his game. Just not on the Pacers

Isn't that a bit harsh?
Jefferson has great value in the lockerroom and the last time we got rid of a great lockerroom guy, we are still having threads about it and ex players whining about it 3 years later. Besides as backup of backups he can be useful IMO

Never quite understood what Larry and Kevin saw/see in Joe Young, but the timing is a bit off, with nobody (of the 20) able to replace him. I think he could get cut during the season. Maybe as soon as Sumner can play.

For me it is hard to tell who else looked good or not good. Those 9 minutes highlights is the most I have seen of that Pistons game.
Of the little I have seen from Uthoff he looked allright to me and they keep raving about Moore his defense.

I guess the two way contracts guys are now the "gamble" guys, so it is possible they keep a roster spot open. Just dissapointed I couldn't watch the entire game :(

Joe Young is 25 years old and has had plenty of time to develop his game. If he is not ready to contribute now, it is highly unlikely he ever will. His game is pretty much as developed as it can be.

ps Kevin raved about him this summer too, to me regret. I don't think it was just Larry Bird doing Michael Young a favor.
Unless Pritchard and Michael Young are buddies too. His father is the only reason I can think of Joe Young getting so much credit, because the talent just isn't there.
