Around the NBA: 2022-23 edition

It seems a thread is needed to post happenings in the rest of the NBA. It seems Richard Jefferson and Kay Felder were traded to
the Hawks. They are expected to be released

The Hawks picked up a 2nd and cash for their trouble. We should be doing those kinds of deals.

Looks like the Pacers have picked up the team options on Turner and Sabonis. Gotta love the cheaper rookie contracts.

Who did the Cavs pick up in that deal?

Nobody. By sending out RJ ($2.5m) and Felder ($1.3m) and taking no salary in return, they save nearly $13m in luxury tax savings.

From wiretap:

Bucks just waived former Pacer Brandon Rush, and Blazers waived veteran shooter Anthony Morrow. They're not anything special at this stage, but if we're looking for extra wing help those guys wouldn't be bad options.

Blazers also waived Archie Goodwin, who's still only 23 and as athletic a prospect as any, but unfortunately for him he's been on several teams already and have been unable to stick anywhere. Don't know if there's actually anything salvageable, but well, we're not expecting to do much this season anyway.

I'd take Archie Goodwin over Joe Young any day of the week.

You would think there are some better prospects released than Joe Young.

Players I think could be useful are Gary Payton, Nigel Hayes and Goodwin.

From Woj (via T&T board)

Milwaukee has been working to trade several players to clear salary cap space, including guard Rashad Vaughn and center John Henson, league sources said. The Bucks have been willing to attach a second-round pick in offers for Vaughn recently, league sources said.

Cut Mighty Joe, pick up Vaughn (21 year old 6'5'' SG prospect), and get a 2nd besides, what's not to like?

with Uthoff waived, we can do a deal like that without giving up on Joe.

Gotta think some kind of deal like this might be in the works. No way we have a roster spot open for just no reason.

I love that it seems like Pritchard is out there looking for sign and trades like the CJ trade or to pick up an asset because of an open roster spot. We don't have lots of assets right now, so it is important to get value when we can. I also love that we are maintaining the flexibility to do it. Under Larry the last few years IIRC we had to waive guaranteed money to make moves like bringing in Lance or Lawson.

not having a 15th player in camp worthy of being paid the NBA minimum is reason enough. no reason to overthink it.

I am not sure what the Pacers see in Joe Young. Very small for either guard spot and does not bring anything special to off set his limitations.

Marcus Smart and Celtics kick the can down the road to next year. I really like the hard nose style of play that Smart brings to a team and I would love to see him a Pacer. Unfortunately the Pacers never make a play on restricted free agents. They certainly have the cap room to make a run at him.

In the general board about the bottom teams, it looks like a lot of posters are predicting that the Pacers could make the playoffs.

I don't feel good at all about watching that happen. After seeing the PG injury, knowing what a lost season feels like, not knowing if they're ever gonna return the same way as before. Hayward seems like a good dude. I been watching him since that Butler run. And the first game he plays reunited with Stevens this happens? Wow. So not cool. Best wishes for his recovery.

The GB thread on this is just a mess.

He looked good in the summer league he's got a shot but he has not gotten enough game play to develop he should be in Ft Wayne.
