So the Grizzlies just beat the Sixers. Everyone thought Memphis would be a crappy team this season. This kinda makes the Pacers blowout win against them in the season opener even more impressive.

To be fair, they beat the Sixers sans Dario and RoCo with no extra practice minutes for the guys replacing them.

Detroit did us the favor of beating Boston last night. We have both Detroit and Toronto games yet in December. Playoff positioning will continue through April.

Grizzlies talking about moving Gasol and Conley now... lot of speculation connecting Conley and us.

And for what it’s worth, it makes more sense than Kemba...

Not close to working financially. We’d have to include a little more than $5m back, minimum, just for salaries to match, but then Memphis would have to waive 2 of their own players before making the deal legally. It’s going to be near impossible for Indy to make a mid season deal for a huge salary like Conley without including 3 of the following players: Tyreke, Bojan, Collison, Joseph. And Memphis probably wouldn’t want back both Collison and Joseph, so you’re looking at Indy having to deal Bojan to make the deal work legally, and now you’re looking at Indy trading 3 key rotation pieces for a very expensive upgrade at the Pg spot. It’s just not realistic.

If Conley is to be dealt to Indy, it’d likely be in July, post draft, using cap space and expanded roster spots.

as the teams fighting for 6 to 8 play each other, our magic numbers keep lowering. a win Monday or Tuesday will lock a spot but if some Sunday games go our way numbers could be reached sooner.

Charlotte loss in early game got them. a Magic loss will get them too.

meanwhile cheer for Bucks over Philly. oh well. Philly won.

a Nets loss in Portland tonight clinches the 6th spot for us. a Detroit loss Tuesday and a Pacer win Wednesday locks 5th.

Ft. Wayne Mad Ants season is over, so expect to see Alize, Sumner, and Davon Reed with the big league club the rest of the way. Reed is ineligible for the playoffs unless we waive someone and then convert him from a 2 way (highly unlikely).

Detroit got way behind to Denver but got within 1 in final minute. they had a 3 point shot to tie but missed. loss lowers our Magic Number for 5th to 1 with Detroit.

Detroit win means neither we nor Boston can fall to 6. Philly hasn't quite locked us both out of 3 but they'd need a total collapse.

Ignoring ties the Pacers and Celts both a have magic number of 4. Should we lose tomorrow, the Celts number drops to 1 because they'd get a Celtics win, a Pacers loss, and own the head to head tiebreaker. Should we win tomorrow our number for a straight win will drop to 2 which we can hit by winning the last 2 games.

Our number for a tie would only be 1, but who gets 4 in a tie if the head to head result is 2 and 2? I think it is Boston. the next applicable tiebreaker is conference record. we're 1 game behind but a win Friday would make that even. but each teams remaining games are all in the conference so if we win Friday and then go 1-1 while Boston goes 2-0, they'd have 1 more conference win than we would.

Best result would be for us to win and Boston to lose both Friday and Sunday. that's put us 2 games up with 1 to play which would allow us to rest everyone in the final game.

http://playoffstatus.com/ has the numbers as 3 for us and 2 for Boston. they must know something I don't know or they are making an assumption about which games are won and lost.

EDIT: Here is the Star coming to the same conclusion in fewer words,.

5 unless we win out and Boston losses out. if Boston wins out and Philly loses out, we could play Philly.

I can't believe the Magic just won a playoff game with DJ Augustin as their starting PG.
