Game Thread 11/3: Pacers vs. 76ers

Post#1 » by boomershadow » Fri Nov 3, 2017 7:06 am

The surprising Indiana Pacers hope to have more good news before Friday night’s road game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Center Myles Turner, out since the season opener with a concussion, is hoping to return.

Turner warmed up before Wednesday’s 124-107 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be re-evaluated prior to Friday’s game, according to the Indianapolis Star.

2 best young rebuilding teams in the East.

Pacers should lose because otherwise by giving favorable situation in the conference we might become nb 1 Seed and that's totally unacceptable. Sorry, but this is no-no go.

Pacers rebuild took about one off-season, 76ers? Still in progress :D , I predict win

Their talent level is off the charts though. Both Embiid and Simmons look like superstars. Although quite injury-prone. I always admired how the Rockets GM Daryl Morey managed to rebuild without tanking. He stole Harden from OKC and then just built around him. Here's hoping Oladipo is Pritchard's Harden. Except there's also Myles who can become a star as well. Domas might be that solid 'glue guy' who you need to build a winning team.

nothing wrong with our history either. there is a reason we have a league best record of 28 seasons with a winning record at home. we drafted Rik, Reggie, the Davises, Granger, and PG. we got Jalen Rose by trading Mark Jackson for a half season rental. we turned an unhappy DD into JO. we recovered from the brawl and got back to the ECF playing physical and now we've turned the team over and are off to a fast start playing with speed.

I'll grant you that most of that was Donnie Walsh, not Bird. we're on to the Pritchard era, and the first moves have worked out well.

I don't remember the specifics of DD being unhappy, was this just a product of the rest of the team retiring and getting traded? Anyway, glad he was unhappy because JO is still one of my favorite all-time Pacers, shame he couldn't stay healthy.

he screwed up and chose not to opt out of his contract. it wasn't the team's fault, but he felt cheated.

Hickory was the high school in the movie Hoosiers. Last year's Hickory jerseys were an exact copy of what was used in the movie. assuming you are not from Indiana as if you were you probably wouldn't have asked the question, the movie is loosely based on our high school tournament back in the day when every school in the state competed in a single class and tiny Milan high school defeated powerhouse Muncie Central. the actual game was better than the movie as Bobby Plump, later to star at Butler and now the owner of a restaurant in the Broad Ripple area of town, held the ball at mid-court for several minutes letting the clock wind down before nailing a long jumper. both the game and the movie are classics.

Hey, let's show proper respect here. In the future, he should be referred to as nothing less than "super-glue".

As I remember it, Dale had not long before signed his new contract. He then decided he should be paid more, and went to Walsh to demand more money. Walsh explained to him that, under his contract, he was not eligible to renegotiate (or be extended for a higher wage) for another year or so. Then Dale decided if he couldn't get more money he wanted to be traded, and Walsh made the JO deal. Past that, Dale then told the Blazers he wanted more money. They explained to him that the restrictions (wage wise) in his contract he had signed with the Pacers was still in effect after the trade, and they couldn't change it.

Yeah, Dale was unhappy, but it was his own fault, or maybe his agent didn't explain things clearly enough for him. He just had no grasp of how contracts worked under the rules, and I doubt he would have ever been able to grasp it.

I'm predicting a loss.

We are due for a loss. Having Turner back would help against Embiid though.

Some Sixers fans seem to be pretty overconfident. Despite having two really talented (although very injury prone) players, their team isn't nearly as good as they think. Judging from what they wrote, they think they're a top-8 team and Pacers are a bottom-8 team.

I predict a loss here if we under-perform compared to our previous play this season, but if we play like we did for the most of this season, this could actually be a comfortable win.

it takes a lot to move from 50 losses to 500 and a lot more to move from 500 to 50 wins. it's possible the sixers have skipped a step and will go from the bottom directly to the top, but I doubt it. talent isn't enough. you have to develop a winning mentality.

Collison on Simmons....for real? I mean, at least put Collison on Redick and Dipo on Simmons.

This is where having a small backcourt hurts.
