GR3's Return (expected to play 02-23 vs. the Hawks)

Anyone here have any updates on his rehab and when he might be ready for game action?

Even though I have/had reservations on committing long-term money to him, I think he could prove to be extremely valuable to us off the bench given our scarce overall roster depth and his ability to play multiple positions.

My popcorn is popping. :D

Back in around September I remember reading something about him needing 4 months of rehab. So I'm guessing he should be back sometime in January or Feb latest

This is what ESPN is saying:

Robinson is estimated to return in January after receiving surgery on his ankle in mid-October. He started participating in light jumpers Friday. It is encouraging to see him partake in drills involving low-intensity movement.

I wouldn't expect to see him in a game before mid feb.

Would be nice to see him back - the kid worked so hard gearing up for this season.

Strange that there hasn’t really been more of an update.

And he is one of the nicest persons ever being a Pacer IMO

Humble, always extremely polite to everyone. That would be a third good reason to want to see him return, besides work ethic and fantasy BB :P

I know why they had to waive Wilkens when they did, but i thought soon after cutting Wilkens, they would give some sort of update of GR3. I guess not though.

Q. What is the status of Glenn Robinson III? When he returns, do you see him joining the bench crew of Cory Joseph, Lance Stephenson, and Domantas Sabonis? If we continue at this pace I don't think any Eastern Conference teams want to see Indiana in the playoffs.

A. I can't really guess when Robinson returns. I've learned not to be swayed by his optimism. I talked with him about a week after his injury and he mentioned the possibility of being back before Christmas. And yet, we're still waiting.
But, it seems he's close. He's practicing with the team, and moves around the court well when we see him after practice. I think there's a good chance he'll be back before the All-Star break.

Whenever he returns, he will be part of the regular rotation, along with Stephenson, Sabonis and Joseph. Nate McMillan has already made that clear, and it only makes sense given the way Robinson played last season. He averaged 7.9 points and 5 rebounds in the 27 games he started, and hit all six of his shots in the playoffs. He'll bring good shooting – 39 percent from the 3-point line last season - and defense to the wing position.

Showcase Joe Young as much as possible before GR3 returns. Once GR3 is back in the rotation, there really isn't going to be much if any minutes available for Joe Young, and he'll probably just end up stuck on the bench and leaving the team once his contract is over. He's a productive player, it'd be a waste to lose him for nothing. Let him play as much as possible now, and hopefully that gives him at least a little bit of trade value

Interesting pint with Joe Young. I don’t see him being traded (unless a filler in a bigger trade although doubt that happens either). Most likely his contract will be up and not resigned. I like him but almost think Sumner is being groomed to be our next Joe Young.

Sumner isn't even playing PG on the Ants... he's playing SG right now, on limited minutes.

I think Joe Young will be fine. He's our insurance at backup PG if CoJo opts out and leaves.

Vic and Lance can also play point. if CoJo gets an offer we can't match though, we'll need DC back.

Sumner will have to be able to make a 3 first. He shot 27% from 3 his last season in college. That is just not going to fly in the NBA unless you are pretty great at a lot of other things.

He's shooting 14% from 3 in the G-League through 4 games.

Kid is a long way from being ready for the NBA, anyone counting on him to be the immediate successor to Corey/DC is out of their mind.

I think some folks get a little too hyped up on 2nd round projects. I know that some across the league have come to fruition. And I am very glad that we are trying to develop some of these 2nd round projects. However, the success rate across the league of 2nd round guys becoming starters or "PG of the future" is very low. It is an absolute win if 2nd round projects like Sumner and Ike can become good rotational players.

The Indiana Pacers announced Thursday they have assigned Glenn Robinson III to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers affiliate in the NBA G-League, as a rehabilitation assignment from his left ankle surgery in October. As a part of his rehab assignment, he will play in today's Mad Ants game against Wisconsin.

The Pacers also assigned Ike Anigbogu to the Mad Ants, and Pacers two-way players Ben Moore and Edmond Sumner are also currently with the Mad Ants.
