Victor Oladipo’s soon-to-be All-Star season came very unexpectedly for the Indiana Pacers. In a trade deal that had folks laughing at Kevin Pritchard and his team, Oladipo’s season (and is a smaller way, Domantas Sabonis’) has all but justified the move Indiana made.

The question now is whether Victor Oladipo is worthy of starting in the All-Star game. While the Toronto Raptors’ DeMar DeRozan won the spot, that hardly ends the debate of whether he or Oladipo deserved it more. While the All-Star game has a pick-up game format, the voting is still based off of the conferences.

On the Lowe podcast last week they discussed this, and indeed Kyrie too, and the thoughts were that Oladipo is well and truly deserving of a spot with both.

Given so many sides play 3 guards an East side of Kyrie, Oladipo, DeRozan, James and Antetokounmpo had been touted. Would be great to see the lack of flexibility with only 2 guards being available changing. Particularly given the game is position less these days.

I wanted to vote for derozen at forward and Vic at guard but it didn't let me.

DeRozan was hands down the right choice over Dipo.

The real issue is Kyrie vs. Dipo.

As Oladipo gets his fair time to to shine in the spotlight, I can't whine.

Dipo got his wake up call after being traded for the second time.

As long as they keep underrating Oladipo, it's all fine for me, because it will be better for the Pacers.

This could very well trigger him to get even better next season

Gonna respectfully disagree there. Kyrie has been the driving force behind the best team in the East. I think the DeRozan/Oladipo question is the one to discuss, and in terms of level of play this year, it's tough. The biggest difference in All Star starter or reserve is Indiana vs Canada. Not to detract from DD, but he's essentially got a whole country voting for him and Dipo's reach isn't quite that large (yet). I don't see any way Dipo gets left out by the coach's vote, so it's all gravy, IMO. And, as Pacersike says, maybe this will push Oladipo to find another level yet!

Dipo. As good as DD is, he disappears when matters. Very "unticlutch", while Dipo is opposite.

Dipo might not even make the All-Star game. Beal and Lowry are confirmed....so its between Wall and Dipo, and Wall has the name recognition. Unless I am mistaken and they can both make it.

Yea, they hadn't when I posted it. Once I heard Wall was in I thought he was gunna get left out.

If it is based on play-off performance, Dipo's 5 career play-off games are arguably somehow worse that Derozan's.

It's based on DD's regular and playoff performances. He folds then matters.

The fact that Derozan has led his play-off bound team in scoring through both the regular season and play-offs for 5 consecutive years seems to suggest you're wrong - especially when you realize that it's something Oladipo has never done - in fact, this season right now is the very first one he's even lead his team in scoring, period.

I find it odd to tout a guy who has only made the play-offs once (while riding Westbrook's coattails), has never been out of the first round, and who has never lead his team in scoring in either the regular season or play-offs as this clutch messiah who is somehow vastly more clutch than a guy that has accomplished all of that.

I wish you guys all the best - I like your team and can't wait to see GR3 play with Dipo. So please don't be offended by my opinion. I come in peace. Now, if you wish to discuss the merits of his Dipo's play THIS season versus Derozan's you could have a case if you then discarded team records and such.

Nahhh, all is good. DD's problems performing in the clutch situations have been talked about endlessly on Raptors board. That's a big dent in his armor. DD and Raptors proved their worth in the regular season for years now, but they need to go further.
Dipo made immediate huge impact on Pacers. Pacers were projected to be nobody. But they are not. Of course, the sample size for Dipo is small, but we are talking about this season, right?
Anyway, who is a starter - it's 50/50. Plenty of good pointers to back both sides. I, personally take Dipo, but have no problems with people taking DD's side too. He always was stellar, constant and last two seasons DD improved his game thus helping Raptors to improve too.
