Indiana Draft Workouts 2018

I think this deserves its own board so as to separate the NCAA prospect talks with the workouts. So far I think we only have two guys coming in for workouts.

I didn't knew A.J. Davis is Antonio Davis' son. Never got the chance to watch UCF this year, but from the limited clips on the net, this guy looks like another Thad Young in the making. Good motor skills for a 6'-9", great interceptions, has good range from the perimeter, and it looks like he got his dad's hustle. Older at 23, but he's more NBA ready than the others.

Not sure if he can be our 2nd rd pick, there's a good chance he'd go undrafted. Teams at the 51st to the 60th spots would likely go for younger prospects with high upside, foreign players, or stash picks.

Kris Wilkes had worked out for the Pacers before he withdrew from the draft.

I thought we only interviewed the guy at the combine along with Mikal Bridges and Shake Milton?

He reported actually working out for the Pacers.

I know it’s still early, but I feel like the Pacers covered this more in the past.

Found a link. It wasn't announced or something. I wonder if the Pacers are having closed door workouts. Highly unlikely though.

Same here. I am expecting things to pick up after the draft withdrawal date.

Makes me wonder if they have plans to trade the pick, or if maybe they are the team to promise Chandler Hutchison. I’d be fine with that pick.

I'd be fine with Hutchison too, but it is much too early to read anything into the lack of workout stories on Pacers.com.

If they want to land Hutchison, they should work out plenty of people so not as to Telegraph their intentions, lest a team at 24 or so jump us to get Hutchison. If that’s truly our intention, that is. I’m not saying it is.

Shamet is the only name I recognize in that group.

Edit: list is also on pacers.com now.

Brandon McCoy has potential and was seen as a 20-30 pick for a while. However, most have him firmly in the 2nd round now. He’s young, and more of and old time big. Shamet is mocked all over the place. I’d take him at #50 without hesitation, or anywhere in the 2nd for that matter. Not at 23.

We reaaaally aren't getting our hopes up working out those guys... would like to see them work out more upper middle first round guys hoping one falls.

I wouldn't worry. That was just round one. Got to remember these guys (the players) are working out for a number of teams. They have to make sense of their travel/flights plans too. Think of it as a band planning a concert tour. Each city has to be part of a larger routing. It will evolve.

I’ve only seen Shamet mocked from 15-25. Nothing lower.

Here's an overview of Landry Shamet's draft stock in some mock draft sites:

Nbadraft.net: 16
ESPN / Draftexpress.com: 42
Theringer.com: 46
Hoopshype.com: 16
Nbadraftroom.com: 44
Thestepien.com: 21
Sportsillustrated.com: 51
Basketballinsiders.com: 44

I am not high on Shamet either. He has this Kevin Martin / Marco Belinelli potential but his bust potential is as equally big, IMO. He's not overly fast and not too athletic for someone with a wiry frame. Bulking up will make him stronger but in turn, there's a good chance he'll get slower too. He'll have troubles getting past faster, stronger, and maybe even smaller guards in the league and that would likely limit his game into being a spot up shooter.

His stock went as high as a late lottery pick, if I can remember correctly, but after the workouts began his draft stock fell drastically. It could be because his limitations are physical and his potential is likely getting limited by how physically better he could be.

I too think that this workout is for our second rounder, I mean even with Shamet in it.

Among the other first draft workout participants, aside from Shamet, the guys I've watched were only Brandon McCoy and Yante Maten.

Brandon McCoy is lightyears away from being somewhat contributory to a team. As of now, he is just a big body a team can use to match up against the other teams' traditional bigs. Role could be very similar to Dakari Johnson and Deyonta Davis.

Maten is interesting and he projects to be somewhat in the range of 50-60. He is solid, literally. Slow and not too athletic but he relies on this strength most of the time. I really cannot find a good comparison for him, the closest I got is a less athletic / heavier Jeff Green.
