Oladipo wins MIP

It seems like such unsurprising news that I almost didn't make a thread on it, but here we go. Good job Victor. He's now the fifth Pacer to win the award which is pretty cool.

There was some level of intrigue at the NBA Awards, but one of those intriguing notes did not involve Victor Oladipo, who as expected, was named the Kia Most Improved Player. Oladipo was officially nominated for the award a month ago, but the expectation that he’d become the fifth player for the Indiana Pacers to win the award in the last 20 years came from before the New Year.

In his fifth season, Oladipo had career bests in in points, shooting, assists, rebounds, and steals, leading the league in the latter with 2.4 per game. The Most Improved Player Award is typically a statistical one, giving Oladipo and obvious leg up, but he also led the Pacers to the playoffs, earning All-NBA Third Team honors and was named to the All-Star Team for the first time.
. . .
Beyond that, the event was filled with typical award show filler and guests including some awkward monologues, the NBA on TNT panel and familiar mock-ups, censored for TV Travis Scott performances, and Bill Russell flipping off Charles Barkley. The event is unlikely to go away, but a there’s a comfort there if that’s your lane, it would just be more interesting if the timing could be improved upon.

Well deserved, obviously. Congrats to Vic! Hopefully Myles becomes the sixth Pacers player to do it next year.

Jalen (2000)
JO (2002)
Danny (2009)
PG (2013)
Dipo (2018)

We're actually tied with Orlando with 5 MIP winners. Need another one next year to break the tie

Jalen was drafted by Denver if I remember right?
Wasn't he the player the Pacers traded Mark Jackson for, and then with them again to get Jackson back?

yes, Mark to Denver for Jalen. later the same year, Eddie Johnson to Denver to get Mark back. might have been some other players in the deals.

Walsh finessed so many teams considering he later traded an overpaid Rose for Artest & B Miller.

Well, Walsh was the one who overpaid Rose (and Croshere and others), so.....

he also fleeced the Pacers sending an over the hill McGinnis here for rookie Alex English. we were in our first playoff race and we thought George would put us over the top but he was resented by the starters he displaced. English became Denver's all time best.

Sent from my phone.

Exactly. Cro was bad but Rose’s deal was catastrophic. The fact Walsh was able to trade him was brilliant.

There should also be a couple of podcasts available on 1070thefan. He was on Grady & Big Joe this morning, then on Dakich at midday.

And yes, they did ask him about Lance. He once again handled it well.

right. he said he'd talked to Lance and Lance was handling things well ... or words to that effect.

Totally right. He became the leader of a team. Not just by his play, but overall. Couple years from now - maybe MVP (far stretch, but with improved 3 point shot, why not?).
