Pacers Release Al Jefferson

Given his guarantee date isn't until January, I'd take this to mean there's at least something in the pipeline. If not, there's no reason not to hang onto Al Jeff.

Timing comes as LA announces they're releasing Julius Randle... maybe it's that?

I posted a similar thread at the same time you posted. Maybe a moderator can combine them?

Edit: Just figured out how to delete my thread, so we're good.

Anyway, I hope if he wants to continue to play or maybe be an ass't coach he gets that chance. Good guy and good mentor. I think the team is better for having had him around.

could also be a favor to Al if he wants to try and play somewhere on a minimum deal.

Randle would be nice but not sure how much we have in cap room after signing McDermott.

Ok, after waive & stretch of Al Jeff, we'll have $16.3m in cap room according to the capulator.

"The Capulator" That's a great name. Sounds like a movie title or something.

On the other hand, for teams over the cap, "The Decapulator" would just sound gruesome.

The name suggests something dirty to me, and if you've ever followed Sham (Mark Deeks, not Shams Chanaria) you'd probably guess it was intentional

Rumor has it that Al Jefferson could return at a lower cost. According to Bob Kravitz.

Not if we're stretching his salary.

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q64
If a team chooses to stretch the cap hit of a waived player's salary (see question number 65), it cannot re-sign or re-acquire the player until the end of the original term of the contract.

I've only seen he was waived. Nothing about being stretched.

That's true. So we're at roughly $13m if Al's contract isn't stretched, $16m if it is.

It's better not to stretch for various reasons (no dead cap in future years, plus it means the guy we're signing is cheaper LOL) but if you need the money, then you need the money.

Makes no sense. If you want wren going to keep him around for camp, just keep him at the non guaranteed $4m.

Big Al, with a big heart. Stick around the organisation, be a "lucky charm".

Hope Big Al is only released and not stretched. Would like to bring him back as the third big.

Have to admit, I still love to watch Big Al doing work down on the block.

We needed to clear the cap space to sign Tyreke and McDermott. Just releasing Lance wasn't enough.

Moreso just trying to say that it’s silly to re sign him. He’s a coach at this point.

Really thought it made more sense to trade Al to a team trying to clear cap space.

I’d imagine we tried but no one was willing to pay the cost we wanted.
