https://thesixersense.com/2018/07/26/philadelphia-76ers-jj-redick-almost-signed-indiana-pacers/“I almost signed with Indy. I was an hour away, two hours away, I was very close. I had a 5:00 PM deadline… it was 12:30, 1:00 in the afternoon when Philly changed the offer… I had a whole conversation with Nate McMillan…”
“I had a similar mindset to DeMarcus going into free agency… if your incumbent team doesn’t offer, you need to go get an offer.”
I would assume this was Option A and Dougie was option B.
Would the reception to this signing have been different if signed the deal Doug got?

That's odd. I seem to remember something about him previously saying he hated Indianapolis? I think it was on a podcast?

I actually thought he would be a good fit. But I assumed he was most likely staying with the Sixers. Good to know Nate and Pritch were out there going after guys though.
Would we still have been able to get Evans though?

In theory, I’d have rather had JJ on the 3 yr/$22m contract that Dougie got. Although, I’m hoping that Dougie develops into a similar impact of JJ.

Pacers signed McBuckets almost out of the gate. It was one of the very first signings in FA, as I recall.
Redick signing with the Sixers was announced on July 2. His contract is a close match to the one Tyreke Evans received (1 year $12-13m) so it seems likely that the same salary slot the Pacers initially offered to Redick was eventually taken up by Evans.
It doesn't necessarily mean that Evans was the second choice though. It could be that initially he was asking for a bigger contract, but settled for the Pacers' offer as the market dried up. Tyreke's signing was announced on July 3.
FWIW I prefer Evans over Redick. I think he's the better and more versatile player, though his injury history does make me cautious.

Im guessing Vic wouldve played more point guard had they landed Redick and Doug because thats a lot of shooting between JJ, Doug and Bojan but they wouldnt have much playmaking. Cojo isnt a good enough playmaker to rely on to set those guys up unless the plan is to play a hot potato style offense; which Nate did use a system in Portland that included a lot of passing around the perimeter to find an open look. But he also had Lamarcus; who was able to command a double team. Not sure if Domas or Myles are that good yet.
