Some background for 8pts9seconds
https://8points9seconds.com/2018/10/18/indiana-pacers-adding-davon-reed/Interesting situation here though in terms of the roster. Technically, Somner is still on a 2 way contract, and since the G League camp hasn’t started yet, the games he plays for the Pacers right now won’t count towards his 45 day. We also have CJ Wilcox on a 2 way, though he ruptured his Achilles before camp and won’t play this year. He has yet to be waived though. After that, we still have Ben Moore on the active roster, technically, though he signed an exhibit 10, so he can be converted to a 2 way later. Lots of options. Somner could be called up as he’s appeared to earn a big league deal. Moore could be sent down. Wilcox is an easy waive and Davon could take his spot. Will be interesting to see what corresponding moves are made tomorrow after Reed clears waivers and we can formally sign him.

I'm having a hard time understanding what he brings that is different from a ton of other players out there. Of course, seeing that he was waived off a gtd contract, he could just be cheap filler for the G league?

To upgrade Somner to a full contract, we’d have to move Ben Moore back down to a 2 way contract via his exhibit 10. He’s currently holding the 15th deal.

did I miscount? at the game last night, I counted 14 player pictures at the entrance. roster does have 15 though. I'll have to check the entry again at my next game. my guess is they'll waive Wilcox unless there is an injured player possibility with 2ways.

Hard to say. Ben Moore hit the transaction wire with his signing. He was never listed as being waived on the wire, and he’s still listed on the Pacers site as on the roster, as is CJ Wilcox. Could be that we’re just not announcing stuff?

I think Ben was introduced to the crowd last night but could be having a senior moment.

I was mad the Suns waived him to add Jamal Crawford. He was injured almost all of last year and came back and played with scrubs down the stretch coming off of injury.
The guy was a 40% 3 pt shooter over his college career and is solid defensively with a 7 ft wingspan.
College numbers.

Officially announced. Wilcox was waived. Sumner kept on 2 way for now, and Ben Moore on active roster. We can convert Moore down to a 2 way later. Have to wonder if maybe we’ll max out Summers 45 days ASAP and then switch the 2. Maybe a way to show favor to Moore, while doing he right thing by Sumner who has earned the If league roster more than Moore by now?

isn't there some kind of rule against paying a guy 50k or more and then sending him to G-League? here is information, but I have no clue how it might apply to Moore.

The rule is against affiliate players. If we pay Moore more than $50k guaranteed, and then waive him, and he signs in the g league, he would be ineligible to be assigned to Ft Wayne. However, he’s on an exhibit 10, so we can reassign his contract into a 2 way at any time without waiving him.

Correct. 2 years max on a Inglewood contract, and a player cannot sign a 2 way if at any time during that contract they will have 3 years of nba service. Reed played 21 games for Phoenix in the nba last year, so there’s one year down. He’s only eligible for 2 more years total on a 2 way if we recall him at all during that time frame.

I think it might be that ESPN is thinking the Pacers picked him up and his 3 yr guaranteed deal from the Suns. Just a guess, could be ESPN is screwed up, it's happened before.

That’s probably most likely. Reports came out we would sign him before he cleared waivers by w4 hours, so someone probably just flipped a switch thinking we claimed him. They’re wrong, though.
