Caris LaVert

Post#1 » by gmc5032 » Sat Oct 20, 2018 2:44 pm

Thank you Larry Bird for another bad move. Glad you're gone. Trading away a #1 pick for Thad Young was never a great idea. The pick turned into Caris LaVert for the Nets. LaVert sure would have looked good on a Pacer roster.....especially now.

Thad is a key part of our success. There were a lot of Bird decisions that didn't work out, but this wasn't one of them.

Also, Bird isn’t gone. He’s still an advisor to Simon and is at every almost every team function. Along with Donnie Walsh.

But yeah. 2 games into a season isn’t the time for snap judgements. For a Levert that was undervalued, there’s a Hibbert or PG that was also undervalued and we capitalized on.

He has been a nice surprise for the Nets, but you can only make decisions looking forward and not backwards, and I don't think many people had LaVert pegged as a guy who would develop as much as he has, so it's hard to fault Bird there.

Not to mention, Thad has been really good for us. It's not like we didn't get anything in return.

Nothing. Players like Thad are looked down upon because there not young and full of potential. Even though they are already productive. :dontknow:

There were red flags too:

On March 22, LeVert had a third surgical procedure in 22 months performed on his left foot in New York City by specialist Dr. Martin O'Malley. By late April, the draft stock of LeVert had slipped to the second round. According to the Michigan Basketball Twitter feed, he attended graduation in crutches at the end of April. He was invited to the May 11–15 NBA Draft Combine. While still on crutches at the combine, LeVert clarified that his injury was a Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal and that Kevin Durant who has the same agency and used the same doctor had called to offer him encouragement.

I think the main point the OP was trying to make without saying it is he doesn't like Bird.

Plus we made that pick for the Nets. Had we not traded for Thad we could have drafted someone else.

Yup. If I recall, we were looking at big men in that draft and we’re looking hard at Brice Johnson.

As I recall LaVert was injured going into the draft and the Pacers were trying to acquire talent to support PG. Looking back it might have been better to move George then, but then we would not have Victor and Domas.

And Brice is not even in the NBA now.
