Game Thread 10/24: Pacers vs. Spurs

I'm actually pretty interested to see what DD on the Spurs looks like.

With their season-low of 91 points, the Pacers will have just one day to remedy the offense before Indiana squares off against the Spurs in San Antonio on Wednesday night.

Last season, the Pacers (2-2) had a rare season sweep of San Antonio, their first since the 1994-95 season.

A memorable Oladipo game-winner in Indy and a sound victory at the AT&T Center propelled the Pacers last season, but after a busy summer, San Antonio's roster looks like a brand new team.

Certainly not going to be an easy one. Thought it would be great to go 2-1 on this roadtrip. Well gotta have this one to get there. Looking forward to it.

ball movement has been exceptional so far. help defense lackluster at times.

It's getting to the point when I see Pacers mucking up the rebounds, I find myself saying Sabonis would have cleaned that sh*t up

Edit: JFC man all these missed rebounds put Domas back in the game already

turner and sabonis on the floor at the same time is working fine today.

I think it's a little interesting that O'quinn isn't getting much burn at all. hasn't even entered the game. Thought he'd be a bigger part of the team, but maybe he's just an injury depth signing. Seems like Leaf has taken all of his minutes now that he's back from the sprained ankle.

Everyone has said consistently that Kyle was filling Al Jefferson’s role as the 5th big, and they’re holding to it. TJ is really getting the confidence of Nate.

Perhaps. Maybe it was just my own imagination.

Regardless, I think he had more talent than the 5th big role requires. Is too much depth a bad thing? I don’t know, but it does feel like a waste at times.

Oh, he’s massively overqualified for the role, but it appears he signed up to win. He’s never really played in a winning environment.

The bench, and really mostly Dom, we’re what put that game out of hand for us.

And it is really fun to see Kyle and Dougie play high low. Those two really have a connection.

The Spurs are exactly the type of team that Nate said we might play Sabonis and Turner together against. LMA is just huge compared to so many of the fours in today's game.

I’m on with starting Thad. Generally, guys over 30 play better starting (warmed up and whatnot) than coming off the bench. I just would prefer that Thad would get the early pull to the bench most times along with Collison.

Also, I’m not worried about the early shooting slump for Collison. It will bounce back to the neighborhood of his career averages, which is fine. I’m more concerned with his hesitancy and indecisiveness so far this year. If that’s how he’s gonna okay, we may need Holiday sooner than later.

Excellent win on the road. A key to the game that no one is mentioned yet is that when Vic was on DD he made him disappear. Took a big part of their offense out of the game. Love the depth of this team. For once it's not like going to the dentist when the 2nd unit comes in. In fact in our wins they have extended the lead. It is a beautiful sight. Ball movement was a thing of beauty last night. Not much Iso ball. That thing was swinging side to side and several times guys passed up a good shot made the extra pass and got a great shot.

this is an issue I've had going all the way back to when Slick coached. do you match up or make them match up to you? Spurs play two bigs and so Sabonis and Turner could match up. Boston with Horford at the 4 is similar but Boston with Tatum at the 4 is different. so do you let Brad decide which lineup to play and match up or do we do our own thing and pressure Brad to deal with it? I come down on the side of establishing tempo. when you think it is to your advantage to slow the game down, you go big, and when you think you can out run them, you go smaller.

unfortunately, the officials influence the decision too. whether the game is being called tight or loose affects how physical your lineup can be.

I tend to agree with what you just said. However, I think this team is a bit different. I lean towards matching up with the opponent. Neither Turner or Sabonis strength is back to the basket post up. If you are going to go big on a team to force your will you are going to throw it in the post and make Tatum guard in the post. To me, that is not the strength of either one of those players, or our team for that matter. I'd prefer matching up to the other team for defensive purposes. It certainly has its time and place. With D West and Hibbert I was all for making other teams adjust because DWest would play bully ball on a small 4. We don't have the low block bully now.

that was Slick's approach. Vogel went the other way. we've also had coaches that substituted by the clock regardless of the opponent.

KOQ?

Agree on KOQ but that really doesn't apply to the starting Domas and Myles together. That's what I was referring to.
