Check out this article I found in a tweet that was posted on the Hawks game thread.

Yes, his per 36 is impressive but, Domas plays about 23 minutes per game. Of those minutes I’m guessing at least 15 are played against 2nd teamers. I think he’s one of the 10 best centers in the league. It’s not a surprise that he kills it against second units.

That was a cool article, thanks for the link BW.
Sabonis is a machine, does the dirty work, an elite rebounder, adds chemistry and unmatched efficiency night after night, and will only get better.
Not a surprise to me though, the guy is an absolute winner and my favorite Pacer.
So glad that OKC were idiots and give up on him.

Per 36 is a bull stat. You can’t extrapolate linearly like that and expect it to represent what would actually happen if Sabonis played 36 minutes.
Obviously Sabonis is impressive and I like the article, I just think it’s misleading.

You mean the averaging of 5pf and 4to per36 isn’t sustainable???

The idea of course is that if he played more minutes he'd put up even bigger numbers. The key is for Domas to stay out of foul trouble. It seems the refs like to call ticky tack fouls on him and then when he's got an eye gouged out they don't notice. Like when Myles got his nose broken yesterday.

Bigger gross numbers, sure. But you're going to lose his efficiency and put him in matchups with the opposing starting bigs more often which can cause him some trouble.
Per 36 he's at 21.3 PPG, 14 RPG, 4 APG on 63% FG% and 74% from the line. From a quick search, the only player that's ever done that is Wilt Chamberlain.
I'm just saying, he's playing 25 minutes per game. Myles is getting 28. I don't get the demand for him to get more minutes, unless you're adding to his minutes without reducing Myles'.

I think the hope we all have is the day when Turner and Sabonis start and we see the beast unleashed!

Sabonis is good. I still wish the raptors drafted him isntead of Poetl.
