What could the team use to get him without giving up too much? Collison and a 1st? Conley and Oladipo would instantly form the best back court in East and give the team a shot to make some serious noise in the playoffs. Thoughts?

The trick is matching salaries. Memphis fans don't seem to expect equal value on the court, but for us to match salaries, we'll have to give up a couple contributing players. I think most Pacers fans are willing to give up DC and Tyreke (although Tyreke has recently started to come around, but Conley would be a much bigger impact). But those two are still just $22mil, and Conley is $32mil, if I remember. So where do we get the extra $10? I'm fine giving up Leaf and McDermott, but a 4-for-1 is tough to do. If Indy wants to get this done, it'd be best to include a third team. Someone willing to maybe include a bad contract from their books in exchange for a Pacers draft pick or something like that, if Memphis is willing to take on a smaller/shorter bad contract.

Yeah, Conley is making $30.5m this year. As an over the cap team, we would have to send out AT LEAST $24.34m in outgoing salary to acquire JUST Conley. Any other player making more than the NBA League Minimum (players making the league minimum can be acquired in trade using a "Minimum Salary Exception" and don't require any outgoing salary to match) would require additional salary outgoing, too. Memphis has Mack, Casspi, Rabb, Brooks, and Carter on minimum salaries, and Noah is untradeable this year since he signed so late. So, you'd need to combine some of these tradeable pieces:
Tyreke Evans - $12.4m
Bojan Bogdanovic - $10.5m
Darren Collison - $10m
Corey Joseph - $7.95m
Doug McDermott - $7.33m
Kyle O'Quinn - $5m
TJ Leaf - $2.41m
Ike Anigbogu - $1.38
Alize - $.84m

Now, remember, league maximums on roster spots are 15. So, if we trade 4 guys for Memphis 1 (Conley), Memphis already has 14 players under contract, and would have to waive 2 other guys just to execute the deal (no, they can't promise to waive one of the guys we send them, and if we trade them someone and they waive/buyout that player, we cannot re-sign them at all this season).

So, matching salary, we could barely match salaries with Evans/Collison/Leaf as they combine for $24.81m, which works by less than half a million. Would that be enough for them? Would they deal Conley for essentially free cap and just Leaf? Does that dent out depth a bit much? Would we include a 1st for the right to pay Conley over $67m over the next two years? Maybe we get back an Omri Casspi (vet minimum exception) to help cover for the loss on the wings of depth? That would leave us around $13m under the cap next season with only Conley, Oladipo, Turner, Dougie, Sabonis, Alize, and Ike and minimum cap holds. And the year after, when Dom re-signs (he's going to sign for more than Myles...say, starting at $25m?), we're already over the cap by a couple million with just Conley, Oladipo, Turner, Sabonis, Dougie, and Holiday. Conley makes it awful tight going forward.

I think there are problems with this.

He has had a bit of a hard time staying healthy recently (missing 9, 12, 26 and 13 games in the last four years). I think his body is wearing down.

His averages don't really stand out compared to his salary, 14.3 points, 5.7 assists and 44% shooting. Those would not be all that bad - except he is making $30.5M this year, $32.5M next year and $34.5M the following year.

I'd call him an average player with a WAY ABOVE AVERAGE salary. In other words, not worth it. We're better off with what we have now, all things considered.

This is the way I can see it happen.
Smith jr goes from Mavs to Memphis
Kyle Q'Queen goes to Dallas. one year conract and Dallas get's rid of 3 years Smith, Memphis has a pg.

Atlanta trades Bazemore to Memphis and Price to Indiana. They get Evans and Bogdanovic both last year contract. Reset for Atlanta.

Memphis trades Conley and filler(Carter) to Pacers, for Bazemore, Collisson and Smith Jr.

Indiana gets they desired Conley, Price( we need a wing!) and filler Carter.

Very complicated trade but that is the only way I see us getting Conley and getting a wing to replace all that we trade.

One of us is looking at his stats cross eyed.

As I look at basketball reference, it looks to me like the last 4 years he has missed 12, 26, 13 and 70 games.

So far this year he has played 46 games. He is averaging 19.8 points, 5.1 assists and 42.2% shooting.

I agree, I am concerned about his health and the fact that he is 31 years old, wearing down and getting $30+ million per year.

Well, I AM left handed so sometimes I get things reversed. Heck, it took me years to learn to ride a bike 'cause I kept pedaling backwards. HA!

I like Mike Conley but not for $30 plus million. So we can just look elsewhere.

But Mavs wont let DSj leave for nothing. They want top 10 draftvalue or they will just keep him for 4 years and hope he turns out. However, since they dont have their pick this year, if they someohow managed to get a lottery pick they would go for it. I've been looking around, think it will be very tough to find a trade for gasol and conley.

We dont need him any more... without Dipo let focus on Holliday and Sumner minutes...
