Was Vic's Injury Inevitable?

Given what I've been hearing from doctors that have performed surgeries on Vic's injury it seems that chronic tendinitis can eventually cause any tendon to rupture whether its an Achilles or quad. Putting the pieces together it seems the time hes missed for this same knee the last two years just finally came to a head Wednesday night. This may sound crazy but if thats the case is it better that he's hurt now while hes still young and able to heal faster?

I get what you are saying. I don't think it was inevitable. I'm certainly not a doctor. But Victor is certainly not the 1st NBA player to have tendinitis. So he was at a higher risk but I'm not sure it was inevitable. I don't know if there is ever a good time for a injury like this.

I think it is a fair question to ask whether his extreme summer training routine made his knees better or worse. it is certainly possible that just as football failed to understand the risks of impact, basketball may have failed to understand the stresses of jumping.

It's one of those things that's easy to point at in hindsight and assign the things we "usually" see along with it, but it's not always the case. Correlation doesn't always equal causation. But, with your point, he's young, dedicated, and seems intent on taking the best care of his body possible, so I have no doubt that he's going to do the best job he can of rehabbing and recovering.

I think he overdid it last summer, and hope he doesn't make the same mistake again.

Take your time and come back 100% even if it takes longer than expected.

Maybe not inevitable, but one that isn't surprising, given that:

-the team relies on him too much
-he garners the attention of the opponent's defense, resulting in him having to push himself even more
-he plays hard, almost with reckless abandon, by nature

Put all these together, can anyone honestly say that they were surprised that he got injured?

I've seen a number of comments on here of people worried about it. Both because of his reckless play and because of how he looked being out there after coming back from the knee soreness.

I'm not going to say I thought his injury was bound to happen, but I have thought for a long time Victor lands really hard and recklessly from his jumps.

The next step in basketball training moving forward is going to be teaching players how to land properly. It matters.
